Energy Monitoring Package GFDM

Compressed air energy management is an absolutely new concept in the field of system diagnostics for pneumatics. The GFDM Energy Monitoring Package does just that and more. Continuous monitoring of air flow and consumption not only ensures process reliability and extends machine usage but also provides reasonable return on investments.

This pre-configured package, consisting of a flow sensor with a selectable flow range and a pressure sensor, is easy to install and does not interfere with machine control. The signals are fed into the diagnostic controller and visualization is available either on the state-of-the-art touch-screen Festo Electronic Display (FED) or on a laptop running customized SCADA software, which provides real-time information about system pressure, flow and air consumption in the form of scrollable charts, and discrete values. Moreover, the user can set thresholds in % or absolute values, which when exceeded will give information about parameter deviation and thus overall system status.

The user can monitor machine cycles based on simple time settings or using machine start/stop signals as triggers from his pneumatic application. Reference values can be "taught-in" when the machine is in an optimized state and from then on can be used to identify deviations in machine performance. Moreover, for a machine which has different operating modes, or produces different products in batches, reference values can be taught-in for 16 such processes.

Examples of the visualization are given below:

1. The reference or taught-in value is shown by the arrow and the current value in the form of horizontal bars along with the absolute discrete value. The overall state of the system is indicated below.

2. The values for air consumed in each machine cycle are plotted in real-time, wherein each peak represents a machine cycle. This live chart is archived and can be recovered to see the trace of consumption values.

Picture02

3. Below screen-shot shows the taught-in value for the air consumption per machine cycle. The user can set absolute values in liters which when exceeded, give an indication of a deviation in system performance. For e.g., when the system consumption exceeds 12 liters (10 liters in reference + 2 liters of tolerance), air consumption state would change to yellow (warning). Similarly, if the air consumption would dip below 6 liters (10 liters in reference - 4 liters of tolerance), air consumption state would change to red (alarm).

Festo would recommend the installation and commissioning of the GFDM Energy Monitoring Package after performing the FESS (Festo Energy Savings Service usually targeted towards end-users) and/or the FACA (Festo Air Consumption Analysis usually targeted towards OEM’s) to achieve optimized state of application before implementation.
