Corrosion resistance classes - CRC

The corrosion resistance classes specify the resistance of components and products to external effects and ambient conditions. 

Class Stress
CRC0  
 Very low or
no protection

Components subject to no corrosion stress

  • For small, standard parts that are not visible. (e.g. threaded pin)
CRC1
 Low protection

Components subject to low corrosion stress

  • Transport and storage protection
  • Parts that do not have primarily decorative surface requirements, e.g. in internal areas that are not visible or behind covers
CRC2
 Moderate protection

Components subject to moderate corrosion stress

  • External, visible parts with primarily decorative surface requirements
  • Direct contact with a normal industrial environment or media, such as coolants and lubricants
CRC3
 Strong protection

Components subject to high corrosion stress

  • External, visible parts which are in direct contact with a normal industrial environment or media, such as solvents and cleaning agents 
  • Primarily functional surface requirements
CRC4
 Extreme protection

Components subject to particularly high corrosion stress

  • Parts used with aggressive media, e.g. in the food or chemical industry
  • Outdoor exposure under severe corrosive conditions

 

These applications should be supported with special tests with the media if required
