Confirmation of high achievement: Festo has won numerous design awards worldwide over the past few years. There have also been countless nominations and invitations to provide exhibits for design shows in Singapore, Moscow and Seoul as well as for the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Expo 2010 in Shanghai. An overview of recent awards can be found here.
iF product design award 2012
All good things come in fours. Or at least they do for Festo at the iF design awards! This year, Festo will be bringing home four IF design awards for its products. These include the electric cylinder EPCO, the valve terminal VTUG and the motor cable NEBM. The adaptive gripper DHDG received a further distinction, winning a gold iF award. 1,605 companies from 48 countries submitted over 4,300 products to be considered for the prestigious design award. This makes Festo's multiple awards all the more special.
With all four of these awards, Festo demonstrates the importance of both design and functionality in products. One product that was particularly successful is the adaptive gripper DHDG, which won gold.
Adaptive gripper DHDG
The adaptive gripper DHDG consists of a pneumatic drive in a sturdy, dynamic basic body and three gripper fingers. The FinRay Effect® (Evologics GmbH) of the fingers, derived from the movement of a fish's tail fin, enables reliable and gentle gripping of delicate materials, irregularly shaped workpieces or components sensitive to pressure. The gripper is produced using generative manufacturing techniques. Apart from its functionality, the most impressive feature of the gripper is its design: its movement is supported by the open design of the housing and the gripper fingers which match the basic body.
Valve terminal VTUG
VTUG is used for efficient automation processes. It is mainly used in the electronics industry thanks to its small size and high-quality solenoid valves. It is made even more attractive by the cost-optimised design and the numerous connection options that enable perfect integration into a system concept. The shape and colour have been designed to complement Festo's existing range of valve terminals.
Motor cable NEBM
The motor cable NEBM transmits signals between a stepper motor and controller. Its high protection class means that it can also withstand harsh environments, making it ideal for use in industrial factory automation. The entire connector series shares the same design blueprint. The cable is designed entirely with the user in mind, and so is ergonomic, reliable and can even be operated while wearing gloves.
Electric cylinder EPCO
The EPCO system consists of an electric cylinder with integrated motor and a compact motor controller. It is primarily used for linear motion tasks of the type encountered in factory automation. The cylinder and controller are characterised by optimised size, weight and extreme ease of handling, and complement each other perfectly in their function.
