Festo’s core competence is mechatronics. This groups together the traditional disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, with the aim of improving the functionality of technical systems. The demand for flexible, adaptive, economic production for tomorrow sets out the challenges for factory and process automation. With its interdisciplinary approaches, mechatronics opens up new technologies, thus enabling Festo to meet these requirements with conviction and confidence.
Optimized modular product kit
Research in the field of mechatronics at Festo sets out to optimise the functionality of systems and intelligent components from the modular product kit to and develop approaches for innovative solutions.
“Mechatronics is not a new profession. It is a way of thinking.” [J. van Amerongen, University of Twente 1989] This is how Festo defines mechatronics. For in addition to these technical aspects, solutions to complex problems require a networked, inter-disciplinary approach. Cooperative developments for and with customers mean support throughout the value creation chain – from initial planning to the operation of a product. The same applies to open cooperation with development partners, for example when it comes to evaluating the efficiency of tomorrow’s production.
