Energy efficiency – The technological future at Festo
Hybrid drive technologies
In today’s automation technology environment, workpieces have to be repositioned faster and more accurately than ever before. Furthermore, this has to be achieved with efficient use of energy.
The response from Festo – The electro-pneumatic hybrid drive
This drive combines the benefits of the electrically driven axis HME – rapid peak force, good adjustability and high level of accuracy – with those of the pneumatic axis HMP. It offers impressive continuous force and gravitational force compensation in vertical operation and develops high forces and dynamic response even in continuous use.
By combining the benefits of pneumatic and electrical drive systems, a new performance class has been created. The high positioning accuracy of the electric direct drive and the high force density of the pneumatic drive are combined in one unit.
Ultra-low leakage
Loss of compressed air through leakage leads to significant costs in the long term. Using ultra-low leakage technology, Festo engineers have succeeded in further reducing the already very low standard leakage of 2 [l/min] in a customised version of the valve terminal VB12 by over 50%.
