Focus on three main areas
Festo is looking beyond its own technology and products in its efforts to achieve sustainable use of resources.
New approaches to increasing energy efficiency were developed internally against a background of continuous company growth and the associated increases in space. The company thus developed a new power generation concept for the St. Ingbert site, incorporating a fuel cell, a cogeneration plant and a photovoltaic system.
The energy-efficient and therefore environmentally-friendly concept for the new extension in St. Ingbert focussed on three main areas:
-
Air conditioning
-
Compressed air production
-
Electricity generation
Innovation for the protection of resources
The innovative nature of this approach lies in its intelligent interaction as well as in the preventive open and closed-loop control of all components.
Energy savings of 366,000 euro annually can be achieved compared with a new building using conventional technology. This results in the following economic and environmental benefits:
- Total energy savings of 38%
- 44% less electricity
- 20% less natural gas
- 3,750 tonnes less CO2
This is equivalent to the energy requirements of an entire district of approximately 2,000 homes. For Festo, this represents a crucial step towards creating a sustainable company with maximum preservation of resources.
