stands for “ Energy Efficiency in Production in the Drive and Handling Technology Field” and is a joint project as part of the German

Government’s energy research programme.

 

...The goal of the project is to develop methods, tools and products to guarantee energy-efficient automation.

 

The correct selection of technology  (effectiveness), and the correct operation (efficiency) are critical for energy efficiency and functionality. Based on an overall study, the project investigated both pneumatic and electric drive technology, including the functional chain and the use of these technologies in the field of handling and robotics.

Abstract:

Pneumatic double pilot valves from Festo can be used as components in element-based safety functions, insofar as the component is used in accordance with the instructions in the product-specific user information.

Double pilot valves reliably provide two stable switching positions or current paths. The (stored) switching position is retained, even if actuating force fails. Double pilot valves from Festo are therefore considered effective for this function. Double pilot valves are an elegant solution for numerous tasks, and in some cases they are the only solution for implementing an element-based safety function.
