Electric stoppers

Factory and process automation is no longer conceivable without electric drives. The advantages are obvious. Not only are they especially cost-effective to operate, they are also very easy to control and configure. Of course, the same also applies to the electric stoppers from Festo, which are used to stop conveyed goods and therefore automate the material flow.

EFSD – the Festo solution

The EFSD electric stopper is available from Festo and has been specially designed for use in transfer systems where objects are transported from one processing station to another. It can be attached directly to the profile of the transfer system with just two screwing processes and also requires an electrical screw connection for input and output signals. In addition to the easy installation, the adjustable cushioning is another highlight of the electric stopper, which is controlled via a digital I/O. It takes over the cushioning and stopping processes via the output of a sensor signal as well as direct command reception via the programmable logic controller PLC.

Features of the stopper

The electric stopper EFSD has an integrated motor controller and a combined interface for the power supply. This allows it to be connected directly to the digital I/O of a PLC and works mono-energetically, i.e. it does not require compressed air. Power supply, communication and logic processing functions are integrated directly in the device. The EFSD uses LEDs for status indication as well as for status and error messages, while the sensor and actuator signal is output via M12 plugs.
EFSD enables conveyed goods weighing from 0.25 to 100 kg to be stopped gently and is our attractive solution for quickly and easily equipping transfer systems without the use of compressed air and comes in three different sizes.

Mode of operations

The electric stopper EFSD has three positions. In position 1, the initial position, the stop of the stopper cylinder is extended and ready to stop an incoming conveyed good. In this position, the LED status message is "Closed" and the input signal is 0.
In position 2, the holding position, the conveyed good is cushioned and slowed down by the cushioning built into the electric stopper and is then held in position for a certain period of time. The LED status message is "Closed" and the input signal is 0 in this position, too.
Only in position 3, the release position, does the LED status message change to "Open" and the input signal to 1. In this position, the stop of the electric stopper is retracted and releases the conveyed goods.
