Actuators research field

New technologies for the actuators of the future

Limited installation space and difficult environmental conditions require thinking outside the box during the development process. That is why we are researching new technologies so that we can continue to be the perfect motion partner for our customers in the future. New materials in conjunction with innovative approaches can solve both existing and new movement tasks.

With its Controlled Pneumatics portfolio, Festo has taken a technological leap forward and opened up new perspectives for pneumatics with piezo technology. But we are already looking even further into the future and testing various concepts in order to be less dependent on material availability, while using recyclable materials in the sense of a circular economy. We are therefore researching shape memory alloys, electroactive polymers and HASEL as novel actuators.

Part of the Incredible Machine

The four innovative actuator technologies are integrated into the Future Motion module of the Incredible Machine. The Incredible Machine is the anniversary exhibit for100 years of Festo. It works on the principle of a Rube Goldberg machine, in which one impulse triggers the next. The Incredible Machine demonstrates the history of automation technology from the past to the present, and reflects our diverse skills and extensive expertise.
