The WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 was cancelled on 31 May 2022. The restrictions imposed in China for pandemic prevention and control made it impossible to hold the event in 2022. In June 2022, WorldSkills International announced the special format of the 46th WorldSkills Championship. It will take place in 15 countries worldwide and continue the more than 70-year tradition of international professional competitions. In 2022, the global WorldSkills network is again giving talented young people from around the world the chance to become world champions in their field.
In close cooperation with WorldSkills International, WorldSkills Germany is the organizer of 9 out of 61 competitions in Germany. Three of them will take place in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. Festo is an official sponsor of disciplines 04 Mechatronics, 48 Industry 4.0 and 55 Water Technology. These competitions will be held at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center, in parallel to the 40th MOTEK, the international trade fair for automation in production and assembly, and VISION, the world's leading trade fair for image processing, from 4 to 7 October 2022.
A new discipline will support the energy transition for the first time in 2022: 62 Renewable Energy. Festo is providing the official competition equipment for the topic of wind energy. For the first time, the nacelle wind turbine learning system is part of the professional world championship. Future wind technicians will use the system to prepare for real operating, troubleshooting and maintenance situations. This competition will be held at the Miyako Fair in Kyoto, Japan from 15 to 18 October 2022.
Festo will also be contributing parts for the official competition equipment in discipline 01 Industrial Mechanics at the World Skills Championships. These are fluid power components as well as the FluidSIM simulation software. The mechanical drives learning system was also used in earlier competitions. In 2022, the 01 Industrial Mechanics competition will take place from 18 to 20 October 2022 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, hosted by WorldSkills Canada.
Festo is also providing components of the official competition equipment in discipline 19 Electrical Installations. The talented youngsters will be using the FluidSIM simulation software for the virtual representation and testing of the functionality of systems. The competition in 19 Electrical Installations will take place from 24 to 26 November 2022 in the Salzburg Exhibition Center in Austria. It is being organized by WorldSkills Austria.
Festo LX is our online portal for teachers and students to get started and design an individual learning experience. Numerous online courses, tasks, e-books and other learning materials for various technical areas are helping participants and trainers to prepare optimally for the competitions. For example, they will find the real competition tasks of EuroSkills Graz 2021 in Festo LX. These represent a good exercise for the discipline 04 Mechatronics.
