The subject of data protection is personal data. This is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (data subject).

As a global leader in automation technology and in technical education and training, we process personal data on a daily basis. In doing so, we are committed to complying with national and international laws and regulations on data protection, in particular the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Where the masculine form is used here, this is merely for linguistic simplification. Statements refer equally to all genders.

2. Groups of persons, purposes and categories of data

2.1 When using our online services

Your benefit / our purposes

Festo offers you attractive online functions that can support you in your daily work in a variety of ways ways or that you can use as a job applicant at Festo. For this purpose, we use personal data to establish your identity and to enable user authentication, e.g. to provide you with your selected services and functions of the Festo online offers.

We also process personal data for security reasons, in particular to detect and prevent attacks on our websites or fraud attempts.

Data categories

When you visit our websites, web applications or online tools, we store the following personal data, for example:

  • the type of device, browser, and operating system you use
  • your IP address
  • the date and time of your visits
  • Use of the websites and their functions
  • search terms, error messages, information about files accessed and data volumes transferred
  • Websites from which you have accessed our websites and websites that you visit from our websites.

Other personal data, e.g.

  • First and last name
  • Business contact details such as email address, telephone number
  • We only store information provided as part of an enquiry, if you voluntarily provide us with this data, e.g. as part of a registration, an enquiry, a contact form, a survey or to execute a contract.

We use cookies in our Festo online offers to collect this data. Further information about Festo's use of cookies can be found in our Cookie Policy. There you can independently set which cookies are activated when you use our online services. For your searches on Festo websites, you only need to set your cookie setting once! If you have expressly given your consent to the processing of your personal data in an individual case, this consent is the legal basis for the processing (Art. 13 para. 1 DPA or Art. 31 para. 1 revDPA or, if applicable, Art. 6 para. 1 (a) GDPR). Festo can only access content and personal data in the applications during service and maintenance work.

2.3 In cooperation with business partners

Your benefit / our purpose

Good business relationships are based on ideal communication between the right contacts and an effective exchange of the necessary information. Your personal data is the basis of our communication on products, services and projects, e.g. to process your enquiries or to provide you with technical information on products. Your personal data is also used to maintain our (contractual) business relationship, e.g. to process orders for products and services, to carry out deliveries, repairs or services and for accounting, billing and payment purposes.

Data categories

  • As part of the cooperation with you as a business partner, Festo processes your personal data as a contact person for customers, interested parties, sales partners, suppliers or other partners. Essentially, this includes
  • Contact information, such as first and last names and business address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • Information about telephone calls, visits, contacts and the content of these communications
  • Information required in the context of a project or the handling of a contractual relationship
  • data collected from publicly available sources, information databases or credit agencies
  • to the extent legally required in the context of compliance screenings, date of birth, identity card and ID numbers, information on relevant court proceedings and other legal disputes in which the business partners are involved
  • Payment data, such as details relating to the processing of payment transactions or fraud prevention, including credit card information and card verification numbers.

Festo is in contact with you as a B2B contact and does not process any personal data that identifies you as a data subject beyond that. There is no profiling that has a legal effect on you personally or affects you in a similar way.


2.4 For collaboration between Festo and business partners

Your benefit / our purpose

Modern electronic communication offers tools that enable ideal collaboration and a quick and easy exchange of information and data. When using such tools, personal data may be processed to ensure the identity and documentation of these contacts.

Data categories
In online sessions and similar functions, the following personal data, among others, may be processed

Contact details (name, e-mail, company ...)

All information from the joint exchange: access authorisations, comments and notes, editing of documents, usage information such as date and time.


2.5 For Direct marketing

Your benefit / our purposes
Festo will inform you about important market trends, new interesting products and solutions based on your industry and selected interests. You will also receive information on marketing campaigns, market analyses or similar campaigns and events.

You have the right to object to the use of your contact data for these purposes at any time by sending an email to info@festo.com or by making use of the objection option within any communication in this context.

Data categories In order to be able to provide you with information according to your wishes and needs, we collect the following personal data within the framework of direct marketing, for example

  • Contact information, such as first and last name and business address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • Your selection for newsletters and areas of interest
  • Information about visits to trade fairs, participation in webinars or the like
  • All other data voluntarily provided by you, provided you have given your consent.


2.6 For the planning and implementation of events

Festo is happy to provide you with live information about our performance, our attractive product range and interesting trends. At various events, we give you the opportunity to talk to Festo specialists or other interested parties and trendsetters. In order to create a useful experience for you, it is important for us to be able to adapt to you and your wishes and needs.

Data categories

In order to organise an interesting and successful event, we need various personal data. Depending on the type of event and the venue, we process, for example,

  • contact information, such as first and last name, business address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • Data for the organisation of the event, such as invitations, personal wishes or travel data
  • Documentation of your attendance and safety briefings carried out
  • Vehicle registration numbers for entry and parking permits
  • Photo and video recordings for publication and documentation purposes

Good information and a good understanding of needs and requirements is an essential basis for the further development of Festo's services. Within the scope of applicable laws, Festo may also use your business contact data to conduct customer satisfaction surveys.

Data categories Depending on the type and objective of the survey, we will inform you specifically about the anonymity of your feedback. Insofar as surveys cannot be conducted anonymously, different personal data are processed, e.g.:

As an attractive employer, Festo wants to attract motivated and qualified employees and offers you a secure and convenient way of applying to us with Jobs@Festo. Here you can find attractive vacancies and manage your applications.

Data categories

As part of the application process, Festo processes all personal data that you provide to us during the application process. This usually includes:

  • Your candidate profile including
    - Name
    - Address
    - Date of birt
    - Contact details such as email address and phone numbers
    - Qualifications
  • Application documents such as curriculum vitae, certificates, proof of qualifications, photo, desired position and other information

Your applicant profile will also be visible to other Festo HR recruiters.


2.8 For satisfaction surveys


Your benefit / our purposes
Good information and a good understanding of needs and requirements are an essential basis for the further development of Festo's services. Within the framework of applicable laws, Festo may also use your business contact data to conduct customer satisfaction surveys.

You have the right to object to the use of your contact data for these purposes at any time by sending an e-mail to info@festo.com or by using the objection option in this notice.

Data categories
Depending on the type and purpose of the survey, we will inform you separately about the anonymity of your feedback. If surveys are not conducted anonymously, various personal data may be processed, such as

  • Contact information, such as first and last name, email address, and phone number.
  • Business information, such as department or management responsibility, may be processed for specific surveys or for more sophisticated analysis.


The survey may be based on your feedback about a specific business transaction.


2.9 Festo as a processor - e.g. when using Festo LX

Your benefits / our purposes
Festo increasingly offers software solutions that support companies in their training tasks or internal processes. In these software solutions, customers process personal data as data controllers. Industrial customers or educational institutions manage user accounts, personal data and settings, including data protection.

In these cases, Festo only processes your personal data on the instructions of the controller and only accesses it for maintenance purposes. These instructions and the mutual data protection rights and obligations for your protection are regulated in an order processing contract. Festo does not pass on personal data to third parties.

3. Legal basis for the processing of personal data

We only process your personal data that is necessary for the benefits offered and the purposes stated.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise when collecting the personal data, the legal basis for the processing is

  • the execution and fulfilment of a contract or pre-contractual measures with you (pursuant to Art. 13 para. 2(a) DPA or Art. 31 para. 2(a) of the revised DPA (revDPA) or, if applicable, Art. 6 para. 1(b) of the GDPR),
  • the fulfilment of legal obligations to which Festo is subject (pursuant to Art. 13 para. 1 DPA or Art. 31 para. 1 revDPA or, if applicable, Art. 6 para. 1(c) GDPR) and/or
  • the protection of Festo's legitimate interests (Art. 13 para. 1 DPA or Art. 31. Paragraph 1 revDPA or, if applicable, according to Article 6 Paragraph 1(f) of the GDPR)

Legitimate interests may in particular be the following:

- Service and further development of our offers;

- Advertising and marketing insofar as you have not objected to the use of your data;

- Prevention and detection of fraud and crime;

- Technical support;

- Responding to enquiries.

If you have expressly given your consent to the processing of your personal data in an individual case, this consent is the legal basis for the processing (Art. 13 para. 1 DPA or Art. 31 para. 1 revDPA or, if applicable, Art. 6 para. 1a GDPR). 4. Transmission of personal data

4.1 Transmission of data during processing by Festo

Festo may disclose personal data to

  • internal specialist departments
  • Other Festo companies or other third parties, e.g. sales partners or suppliers, if this is necessary in connection with the offer or the initiation, implementation or settlement of the business relationship
  • to service providers who process personal data as part of their service provision e.g. service providers for IT security, maintenance activities or event management
  • to third parties when necessary to comply with applicable law or to defend against legal claims, e.g. in connection with compliance screenings, arbitration or litigation, to authorities, government agencies, health insurers or legal counsel.

If recipients are located outside the territorial scope of the GDPR, Festo will take measures to ensure appropriate and adequate safeguards to protect your personal data otherwise.

If a transfer is made abroad, this is either to a country that has legislation with adequate data protection in accordance with the German DPA or, if applicable, in accordance with the GDPR, or if this is not the case (e.g. USA), Festo takes measures to otherwise ensure suitable and adequate guarantees for the protection of your personal data.

  • We therefore only pass on your personal data to Festo companies on the basis of the Binding Corporate Rules ("BCR"), which the members of the Festo Group have undertaken to comply with
  • Personal data will only be transferred to recipients outside the Festo Group if they have (i) concluded EU Standard Contractual Clauses with Festo or (ii) introduced Binding Corporate Rules.

Personal data published by you via Festo online services (e.g. in chat rooms or forums) may be accessible to other registered users of the respective Festo online service worldwide.

4.2 Social media and Plug-ins

Festo is represented on social networks in order to give registered users of these platforms the opportunity to communicate and exchange information interactively. The use of the respective social networks is also subject to the terms of use and data privacy declarations of these companies, which provide information on their conditions and the handling of personal data.

Festo has integrated links to the company's official channels on websites via so-called social plugins. When you access one of these social plugins, a direct connection is established with the respective provider and your data is processed by them. If you are logged in to your user account at the time, the provider can associate your visit to our websites with your user account.

Cookie Use

5. Retention of personal data

Unless an explicit storage period is specified at the time of collection, your personal data will be deleted after a defined period of time if it is no longer required to fulfil the purpose, unless legal retention obligations (e.g. commercial and tax retention obligations) prevent deletion.

6. Data security

Festo takes the necessary technical and organisational measures to ensure adequate protection of your personal data.

7. Possibility to revoke consent

If our processing of your personal data is based on your consent to the processing of your personal data, you have the right to revoke the consent given at any time with effect for the future.

The revocation does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent before the revocation.

8. Your rights as a data subject

As a data subject, you have the following rights under the GDPR in connection with the processing of your personal data to

  • confirmation as to whether Festo has processed personal data about you and information about the personal data processed by Festo
  • the correction of your incorrect personal data
  • the deletion of personal data processed by Festo
