Intelligent connectivity - control technology

Installation and control concepts influence each other. This means that architectures must be cleverly networked to achieve seamless connectivity. Festo offers a unique range of concepts for your drive solution. Whether you’re looking for an autonomous control concept for greater modularity and freedom in the system layout, perfectly networked control solutions with other standard control concepts, or perfect, seamless integration into your system environment with Ethernet-based protocols, anything is possible. We call this: Intelligent connectivity.

Automation system CPX-AP-A

Highly flexible, lightweight and modular
The new automation system CPX-AP-A is a highly flexible, modular remote I/O system. It is real-time capable, offers a transmission speed of up to 200 Mbit full duplex and, due to its particularly robust design, is suitable for moving applications with up to 5G and is thus also ideal for robotics.

The CPX-AP-A is a fully-fledged IO-Link master V1.1 with data storage mechanism and device parameterisation tool. Up to 15 modules can be combined in one automation system. Linkages are simply connected by means of an angled screw connection. In addition, the system offers extended diagnostic and predictive maintenance information, such as valve switching clearance counters and cable quality monitoring.

Modular control system CPX-E

Simple, variable and flexible

The automation system for factory and process automation: designed as an EtherCAT® master controller and motion controller in IP20, Festo's CPX-E offers a standardised platform for motion control of stepper motors and servo motors in smooth mixed operation. Its scalable motion control functions include linear and multi-axis movements and make the CPX-E the central control system for handling systems and smaller machines/plants.

  • Simple: intuitive programming of complex functions
  • Variable: can be used stand-alone or networked
  • Flexible: thanks to modular system design
  • Communicative: Offers standard interfaces to all common host systems
  • Versatile: Thanks to extensive module selection
  • Industry 4.0-capable: With OPC-UA and CODESYS control V3 (SP10)

Integrated control cabinet solutions with CPX-E and VTUG

An ideal combination that is much more compact than before: the automation system CPX-E and the valve terminal VTUG together in a control cabinet. This is a complete solution that is easy to install and keeps tubing installation to a minimum.

Decentralised remote I/O system CPX-AP-I

Real-time capable, fast and compatible

With real-time capability, short bus cycles and speeds that are twice as fast as current Ethernet-based networks, the CPX-AP-I is ideal for fast production processes and high-speed data transfer. The sturdy, compact and ultra-lightweight remote I/O is compatible with all host systems commonly found on the market. With up to 80 modules, it can be flexibly integrated into applications of any scale and is optimally suited for those applications where low weight and minimal installation space are called for, whether in handling and tool changing systems or in mobile applications, for example at the robot front end. Thanks to cable lengths of up to 50 m between the individual modules, CPX-AP-I is also the first choice in systems and intralogistics where large distances matter.

CPX-E Remote I/O modules

Compact and cost-efficient

The CPX-E as remote I/O in IP20 is a cost-effective and compact alternative in many universal applications and offers advantages wherever plants are widely branched. Modules with specific approvals (NE21 and IECEx) are available for process automation applications. Integration is also very simple - you can quickly and easily integrate the remote system into existing host systems via several available bus modules.

  • Digital input modules (16 DI)
  • Digital output modules (8 DO/0.5 A)
  • Analogue input module (4 AI current/voltage)
  • Analogue output module (4 AO current/voltage)
  • IO-Link® master modules (4 channels)
  • Counter module
