The Motion Control Industry awards celebrate the very best as finalists and winners are recognised for their contribution to the industry. The Gala awards dinner takes place on Tue 10th April 2018 at the National Conference Centre. The timing of the Gala dinner couldn’t be better as near-by at the NEC the Fluid Power & Systems, Air-Tech, Smart Industry Expo and Drives & Controls exhibitions take place at the same time (10th – 12th April 2018).
To enter the 'Contribution to skills and training' award Festo had to give an example of a training programme in which it had played a major role and chose the programme ‘Implementing Industry 4.0 for key decision makers’, Festo is at the forefront of educating business about the opportunities and challenges Industry 4.0 brings. Whilst there is lots of information on Industry 4.0 in the public domain, it is often by companies seeking to promote their products on the back of the topic. This is not Festo's approach. This programme looks at Industry 4.0 from a neutral point of view and provides the building blocks from which organisation can define their implementation strategy and plans.
This programme familiarises delegates with the key differences between Industry 3.0 and 4.0 and uses a real Cyber-Physical system to consider key technologies such as RFID, NFC, M2M communication, vertical & horizontal integration, decentralised self-controlling production and augmented reality. Delegates are then encouraged to consider the social-technological impact, the effect on their business model and new potential business models, possible Bottom-Up and Top-Down strategies to implement Industry 4.0, as well as the new demands that will be placed on their organisations such as increased change management and the requirements for new skill sets.
Festo also had to demonstrate how it had shown commitment to the industry as a whole. In addition to launching training programmes on Industry 4.0, Festo has worked to educate business and promote discussion. It has issued White Papers ‘All Change for Industry 4.0’ and ‘Practical tips for Industry 4.0 Implementation’ and run open webinars ‘Implementing Industry 4.0 - Management Briefing’. Many businesses have benefited from bespoke presentations and trips to see Industry 4.0 technologies at our factory in Scharnhausen, Germany. Festo have presented on SMART Maintenance at Maintec, and on Industry 4.0 at the Manufacturing Management Conference as well as supporting many events such as the Digitising Manufacturing Conference at the Manufacturing Technology Centre and SMART Factory Expo in Liverpool.
