EU directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS)
This EU directive, also known as “RoHS Recast” or “RoHS II”, regulates the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment in EU member countries. It replaces directive 2002/95/EC. The objective of the amendment is to further restrict hazardous substances and pollutants in electrical and electronic equipment. The protection of people and the environment is of foremost importance.
Knowledge resulting from the previously valid RoHS directive, 2002/95/EC, has been implemented, and its provisions have been amended in the revised version (RoHS Recast).
Significant changes adopted by the RoHS Recast include an expansion of its scope of validity to include category 11 and a time limit for exceptions. No additions have been made to the range of forbidden substances.
Large-scale stationary industrial tools and large-scale fixed installations are still excepted. Furthermore, “equipment which is specifically designed, and is to be installed, as part of another type of equipment that is excluded or does not fall within the scope of this directive” is also excluded from the scope of validity. Our products are designed for process and factory automation and are thus fixed constituents of large-scale fixed installations and/or large-scale stationary industrial tools.
When RoHS 2002/95/EC came into effect in July 2006, Festo AG & Co. KG began adapting its product range to RoHS conformity.
The great majority of our products are now RoHS compliant, with the exception of a small remainder.
