Your prospects as a female engineer

We would like to generate enthusiasm for technical professions among women and to help them gain practical experience, develop their talents and thus enjoy the best possible prospects as an engineer.

We are therefore looking for female students who are studying for a master's degree in mechatronics and electrical engineering and who are aware of social issues, appreciate equal opportunities and also have a very good academic track record.

We believe in a holistic approach for offering support – from financial assistance to numerous development programmes and employment with Festo.

The first female Festo Scholarship holders have been named - since the winter semester 2013/2014, six women have been enjoying the benefits of a Festo Scholarship. They now each receive monthly financial support and moreover have a personal mentor at Festo.

From the lecture room to the assessment centre

Festo has welcomed its six chosen women with their interest in mechatronics and electrical engineering as its new Scholarship holders. These women became aware of Festo through lectures, career fairs and mentoring programmes at various universities and were also motivated to apply for a Scholarship by the many possibilities which this offers. In addition to carrying out practical work in different Festo departments and completing a final thesis, the Scholarship holders will be able to obtain an overview of the company, gain an impression of how it would be to work later for Festo and have an opportunity to start their careers.

It was first necessary to pass through a selection process, since there was heavy demand for the Scholarship places. The task there was to put on an impressive performance. This process was concerned not only with technical matters but naturally also with personality and  methodological and social skills. It was important for everyone concerned that the applicants should be able to demonstrate that they were strongly motivated with regard to their studies and their interest in technology. This year's applicants already received inspiration during the application process, since the selection stage in the Assessment Centre also demanded creativity. The selected Scholarship holders met officially for the first time in October on the Festo exhibition stand at Motek 2013. But this is by no means all - Festo plans further lectures and seminars for them and a wealth of opportunities to gather new and exciting impressions.

Personal mentoring - a further advantage of the Scholarships

In addition to receiving monthly financial support, every one of the six students has been assigned a personal mentor. These work one to one and are available as contacts for the Scholarship holders at all times. The mentoring programme thus puts the technology-inspired women in touch with a contact person who can not only provide professional advice but can also on a personal level answer questions relating to everyday work routines or working life. It is very helpful that, with their mentors, the Scholarship holders are in touch with professionally experienced people who bear witness to Festo's enthusiasm for technology. Mentors can also act as door-openers for the professional careers of the young women. One of the students has already been able to sign a contract as a student trainee with Festo.

Festo awards these Scholarships in a 2-yearly cycle - applications for the next cycle can be made from January 2015 onwards
