CANopen:
The CANopen communication protocol, based on CAN (Controller Area Network), is used to network complex equipment/systems. CANopen networks provide point-to-point connections for service data objects (SDO, e.g. parameters and diagnostics) and multicast connections for process data objects (PDO).
The advantages of Festo products for CANopen:
- Support for the LSS protocol for bus configuration of the CPX bus node
- Extensive diagnostics e.g. via LEDs as well as the option of defining device behaviour in the event of an error
EtherCAT:
Characterised by short cycle times and very precise, almost jitter-free synchronisation. Continuous communication with CANopen is possible based on standardised profiles.
The advantages of Festo products for EtherCAT:
- Support for Modular Device Profiles (MDP), for easy configuration
- Mailbox functions CoE (CAN over EtherCAT) FoE (file access over EtherCAT) and EoE (Ethernet over EtherCAT) are available
- Extensive diagnostics e.g. via LEDs as well as the option of defining device behaviour in the event of an error
Modbus-TCP:
The simply structured data model is based on a client/server architecture and transfers data inside TCP/IP packets. Modbus is thus fully compatible with standard Ethernet networks.
Festo has more than 20 years of experience in communication via Modbus-TCP and offers a wide range of products including vision systems for trouble-free integration into Modbus networks.
