DMG MORI is building a new training center at its Pfronten site for around 150 apprentices. Covering an area of approximately 4,500 m², the facility will provide modern learning environments for the fields of metal technology, electrical engineering, and automation. Festo Didactic is supporting the project from the planning phase through to the furnishing and equipping of the training areas. The learning environment includes three multifunctional training rooms equipped with modern educational solutions for pneumatics/hydraulics, electrical engineering, and control and drive technology. The concept is complemented by a factory automation laboratory featuring a CP Lab, including a collaborative robot (cobot), enabling hands-on automation training and practical applications. Key features of the new training center include a flexible room concept, direct access to the production hall, and a future-oriented design of the learning spaces. The new building will also include a dedicated area for lifelong learning, available to all employees.
From Didactic Concept to Implementation
Following the assessment of the current situation and an understanding of the on-site working methods, the initial discussions began. Key topics included DMG's internal improvement ideas as well as Festo Didactic’s proposals for flexible and multifunctional room concepts. Based on these discussions, initial implementation proposals and a well-founded cost estimate were developed.
A 3D visualization helped to engage and convince the decision-makers. By mid-2024, negotiations had been successfully concluded and the contract was awarded at an early stage. This enabled the timely development of installation plans and ensured adherence to delivery schedules.
In December 2025, the systems and equipment were delivered, assembled, and installed, followed by joint commissioning. Initial briefings and training sessions took place in January. The grand opening of the new training center in early February, held as part of the annual Open House event, marked the highlight of the project and was attended by prominent political representatives.

Special Features
A key factor in ensuring a smooth process, particularly during the final installation phase, was the early involvement of all stakeholders during the project planning stage. This allowed installation requirements as well as mounting and fastening solutions to be coordinated and incorporated at an early stage.
The concept also took into account DMG MORI’s specific training content requirements, as well as the individual processes and workflows of day-to-day apprenticeship training.
Project Ideas and Customer Requirements
As a global leader in machine tool manufacturing, DMG MORI is committed to investing in young talent and expertise. The goal was to maintain the high quality of training, continuously improve it, and support the development of its own skilled workforce as the foundation for innovation and the competitiveness of Bavaria’s industrial sector.
A modern and standardized training center was designed to provide space for new ideas, enthusiasm for technology, and first-class vocational education. Around 150 apprentices, trainees, and dual-study students are being prepared for the challenges of Industry 4.0 through state-of-the-art technology, hands-on learning environments, and a genuine passion for mechanical engineering.
