WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 was cancelled on 31 May 2022. The ongoing pandemic prevention and control restrictions in China made it impossible to hold the event in 2022. In June 2022, WorldSkills International announced the special format for the 46th WorldSkills vocational championships. It takes place in 15 countries around the world and continues the more than 70-year-old tradition of international vocational competitions. In 2022, the global WorldSkills network will once again give talented young people worldwide the chance to become world champions in their field.
WorldSkills Germany, in close cooperation with WorldSkills International, is hosting 9 out of the 61 competitions in Germany. Three of them will take place in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. Festo is the official sponsor of the disciplines 04 Mechatronics, 48 Industry 4.0 and 55 Water Technology. These competitions will be held at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre at the same time as the 40th MOTEK, the international trade fair for automation in production and assembly, and VISION, the world's leading trade fair for machine vision, which will take place from 4 to 7 October 2022.
A first for the 2022 competition is the new discipline that will support the energy transformation: 62 Renewable Energy. Festo provides the official competition equipment for the topic of wind energy. This will be the first time that the Nacelle Wind Turbine Learning System will feature at WorldSkills. The system will give future wind turbine technicians the opportunity to prepare for real operating, troubleshooting and maintenance situations. This competition will be held at the Miyako Fair in Kyoto, Japan, from 15 to 18 October 2022.
Festo also supplies components for the official competition equipment in the discipline 01 Industrial Mechanics of the world vocational championships. These consist of pneumatic and hydraulic components and the FluidSIM simulation software. In previous competitions, the learning system Mechanical Drives was also used. The 01 Industrial Mechanics competition will be held from 18 to 20 October 2022 in Brampton, Ontario, CA, hosted by WorldSkills Canada.
For the discipline 19 System Electrics, Festo is also providing components for the official competition equipment. The young competitors use the simulation software FluidSIM to visualise and test the functionality of plants virtually. The competition in 19 System electrics will take place from 24 to 26 November 2022 at the Messezentrum Salzburg in Austria and is hosted by WorldSkills Austria.
Festo LX is our online portal for teachers and students to get started and create an individual learning experience.
