The future of machine design

Are you already thinking beyond the next generations of machines and looking for a technology that will remain stable, while also supporting future developments? Then the valve terminal VTUX with AP communication technology will provide you with exactly the right technology.

Serial and parallel communication

The internal serial (performance) version offers extended communication options and provides fast bidirectional AP communication and increased efficiency. Internal serial linking also enables extended diagnostic functions and makes it easy to integrate the digital inputs directly in the valve. It supports the connection of up to 128 valve coils, significantly more than the parallel (basic) version, which is limited to 32 valve coils and provides unidirectional control signals. Internal serial communication offers you an excellent infrastructure for future technology functions.

The installation location of the valve terminals can be freely defined

The next generation VTUX allows valve terminals to be positioned wherever appropriate, their size can be freely selected and they can be equipped as required. The more extensive functions are simply placed where there is more free space. If the conditions call for more stringent restrictions, only those elements that are needed right away are included.

Integrated functions

The VTUX offers a wide range of integrated functions that significantly increase efficiency and user-friendliness. One key feature is the valves with digital inputs, which are easy to assign. Integration is uncomplicated and flexible, whether using M8 connections or PNP/NPN signals. The valve terminals also feature innovative vacuum solutions with an air-saving function that not only conserves resources but also optimises operating costs. The internal serial communication provides easy access to parameters and diagnostics, which considerably simplifies system maintenance and monitoring. These functions make the VTUX a powerful solution for modern automation requirements.

Highly flexible valve terminal VTUX

The benefits to you:

  • Real-time communication using AP technology
  • Can be combined with the CPX-AP-A remote I/O system for centralised installation concepts
  • Can be combined with AP-I interface for decentralised installation concepts
  • Pure vacuum terminals or mixed with switching valves

This video shows you the modularity of VTUX for centralised or decentralised installation as well as the combination of switching valves and vacuum units as required:

Valve terminal VTUX with vacuum function

The benefits to you:

  • Vacuum and ejector pulse can be individually controlled
  • Integrated air-saving function for vacuum generation
  • Integrated vacuum sensor feedback for process control and cycle time control
  • Monitoring evacuation and exhaust times (condition monitoring) for preventive maintenance

In this video, you can see how easy it is to create customised vacuum solutions with VTUX by combining switching valves and vacuum units or by having only vacuum units:

Digital inputs on valve terminal VTUX for sensors

The benefits to you:

  • Directly assigning the pneumatic drive to the sensor feedback possible
  • Very compact and small
  • Adapter for easy mounting and high packing density of the sensor inputs

Take a look at the smart solution for the decentralised connection of sensors – PNP or NPN – to valve terminal VTUX. Sensors with an M8 connection or open end can also be connected:

Centralised and decentralised machine concept

Central machine installation with valve terminal VTUX

The benefits to you:

  • A central shared fieldbus node for communication with the controller
  • VTUX can be connected to the standard Ethernet-based fieldbuses via the remote I/O system
  • Central, easily accessible sensor inputs on the remote I/O system
  • A lot of infrastructure can be integrated on the shared central unit without requiring major installation efforts
  • The individual modules are connected via a sturdy backbone without additional cables

In this video, you can see a centralised installation concept with VTUX in a machine frame in combination with a modular remote I/O system CPX-AP-A:

Decentralised machine installation with valve terminal VTUX

The benefits to you:

  • Compact, lightweight valve terminal with switching valves, sensor inputs and vacuum generator in one unit
  • Proximity to the process for short energy-saving tubing to the pneumatic drives and high-performance response times
  • Energy-efficient vacuum generation with minimised evacuation times and short tubing
  • Digital inputs for sensor connection directly at the front end
  • Vacuum generation including air-saving function
  • Real-time communication via AP technology to VTUX

This video shows the VTUX installed decentrally in a pick and place application with linear and rotary motion as well as vacuum for picking up parts:

An overview of the features of the valve terminal VTUX

Parallel and decentralised: VTUX-A-P-..

The internal parallel version provides unidirectional control signals and supports the connection of up to 32 valve coils. This gives you a cost-efficient platform with integrated vacuum functions. The valve terminal VTUX also has decentralised installation options offering the following benefits:

  • Short tubing for reduced air consumption and high dynamic response
  • Electrical cables for bridging the following distances:
    – Up to 50 m between AP subscribers
    – Up to 20 m between IO-Link® devices
  • Faster cycle times

Parallel and central: VTUX-A-P-APA-..

The internal parallel version provides unidirectional control signals and supports the connection of up to 32 valve coils. This gives you a cost-effective platform with integrated vacuum functions without sensor feedback. The valve terminal VTUX also has centralised installation options with the following benefits:

  • Clear layout
  • Easy to access and service
  • Can be extended at specific points
  • Less installation effort

Serial and decentralised: VTUX-A-S-..

The internal serial version offers bidirectional communication and supports the connection of up to 128 valve coils. You also have the option of configuring the valve terminal VTUX with additional functions such as digital inputs directly on the valve or integrated vacuum functions including a vacuum sensor. In addition, the valve terminal VTUX offers decentralised installation options with the following benefits:

  • Short tubing for reduced air consumption and high dynamic response
  • Only two electrical cables to bridge the distances
    – Up to 50 m between AP subscribers
  • Faster cycle times
