For many years now, the products of Bayer Division Crop Science have been contributing to good yields and bigger harvests in more than 120 countries around the world; they are thus helping to ensure that world populations receive adequate supplies of high quality foods.

The R&D process for a new crop protection product takes 10 to 15 years. To enable fast and individual production, Bayer created a new multi-purpose system in 2002 which places huge demands on safety and reliability.

Laboratories in the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food technology industries are increasingly relying on automation for sample preparation. The Modular Sample Processor, a development from the global laboratory equipment manufacturer Anton Paar, is one such solution.

The DNA extraction robot combines high sample throughput numbers with high-quality standardised DNA purification and thus relieves highly-qualified personnel of the need to carry out routine activities. Part of the solution is a handling system based on electric axes, motors and controllers from Festo.

With a population of 2.8 million, Bursa is the fourth biggest city in Turkey and needs approx. 700,000 cubic metres of fresh water every day. In order to optimise the supply of drinking water, the local municipal water company BUSKI recently modernised its water treatment plants. The 28 newly automated filter basins in the Dobruca water treatment plant can treat up to 500,000 cubic metres of water every day – more than two thirds of the city’s drinking water needs.
