What if there were an industrial robot that was easy to operate, did not require a safety fence and was also attractively priced? That would introduce a whole new era in human-robot collaboration. This new era in robotics is now drawing near – with the world's first pneumatic robot from Festo.
Hardly any industrial market segment will grow as rapidly over the next few years as robotics, particularly human-robot collaboration. Cobots relieve employees of particularly strenuous or monotonous tasks, giving them new levels of freedom and making their work easier and healthier. And no other technology has such a sensitive and flexible approach to human-robot collaboration as pneumatics.
Our 6-axis industrial robot offers functions for safe human-robot collaboration and has a manual module with emergency off/release button. Commissioning and programming are intuitive, quick and easy with the Robotic Suite software.
We have combined our expertise in pneumatics and handling technology with inspiration from bionics and technical knowledge in the world's first pneumatic cobot. This technological advance in robotics offers unique advantages for industrial automation.

If function tests are required, as in the production of printed circuit boards, the Festo Cobot loads and unloads the test devices. This is often still done manually. The low weight of less than 17 kg and easy integration make our collaborative robot ideal for these tasks. Once the corresponding workstation has been prepared, it is possible to switch between manual loading by a staff member and automatic loading by an industrial robot at any time, making temporary use of robots economical.
When loading machines, such as lathes or milling machines, the Festo Cobot can also be used as a classic industrial robot at its maximum speed. Its reach of 670 mm can be extended with linear axes from Festo. This also enables our robot to operate several machines side by side or opposite each other.
The sensitivity of the pneumatic system makes labelling processes such as applying labels to soft materials easier. By gently pressing, the labels are applied without causing any damage and without any pressure marks or creases in the packaging.
In addition, the flexibility of the Festo Cobot tolerates a "moving target", so that a label can be applied while the conveyor is running without any loss of quality. There is no need for camera-based position monitoring.
When spraying paint or blowing off residues, complex movements are often required to reliably reach areas that are difficult to access. Thanks to simple manual teaching, the Festo Cobot makes individual and slow programming of the many waypoints unnecessary. They are taught in once using a manual and intuitive process and then repeated by the robot. The uncomplicated teach-in quickly makes the industrial robot economical even for small batches.
Our vision: in future – with the use of artificial intelligence – movements will be learned and adapted independently.
