    Festo AX analyses live data in real time. What does that mean for you? You get the information you need as soon as an anomaly occurs. No delays. No lags. That gives you the time you need to make arrangements before anything really bad happens.

    Festo AX works perfectly with our components, which are used in many machines and systems. By adopting established protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT and many others, it is easy to integrate the application in third-party components and machines.

Your feedback, i.e. your classification of the anomalies and recommended further action, provides the person receiving the notification with the information they need so that when the anomaly occurs next, they know exactly which system is affected, what is happening and what they need to do. Simply put, Festo AX keeps the "human in the loop".

Predictive maintenance

For many manufacturers, avoiding production downtime is a great challenge. Festo AX helps you overcome this challenge.

How? The data produced by your assets is sent directly to Festo AX and processed immediately using algorithms based on artificial intelligence and machine learning (real-time analytics). You are notified as soon as the data deviates from the asset’s "healthy state" (anomaly detection). The notification tells you which sensors are affected and even recommends further action. Naturally Festo AX still needs your expertise: classify the anomaly so that the software knows how to respond the next time the same anomaly occurs. Your input improves the algorithms and also prevents unwanted notifications (human-in-the-loop).

The result: anomalies are detected very early on, so that unexpected downtime can be avoided, spare parts are ready when needed and servicing can be performed without negative implications for your production processes.

Predictive energy

Festo AX helps you with all tasks concerning the efficient use of energy. For example, reducing energy costs such as power grid charges by avoiding costly peak loads is a complex and demanding job that is made easier by Festo AX.

How? Festo AX uses adaptive learning to analyse the load profiles of consumers and switchable producers in the production processes and calculates average power values. The software generates a warning message that indicates very early on when a specific cost-relevant load limit is going to be exceeded. Such as for energy consumption, for example.

The result: Proactive measures to switch off relevant consumers and switch on in-house generators (such as CHP systems) or even measures to restructure production can be implemented before the load limit is actually exceeded. This approach allows you to avoid peak loads, reduce grid charges and therefore reduce production costs.

Predictive quality

Production processes are configured to achieve the best results, but despite best efforts, defects still happen. Festo AX helps you to avoid quality losses and therefore reduce the number of rejects.

How does it work? Festo AX learns the complex correlations between process parameters and external influences (such as ambient temperature) and proactively warns process experts of impending quality losses by analysing the process data in real time.

The result: The system calculates which process parameters are responsible for the quality losses and how they must be adjusted in order to achieve the specified product quality again. This approach ensures that quality is consistent and avoids rejects altogether.

Our procedure:

  • Create an inventory of all relevant components
  • Analyse existing hardware, focusing on:
    • Protocols
    • Technical/system requirements for using Festo AX
  • Develop a rough concept for the smooth connection of our AI software
  • Festo AX recommendation for any additional hardware needed (gateways, edge devices, sensors, etc.)

Festo AX Data Check: analyse your data and training of an initial AI model

Our procedure:

  • Create an inventory of historic data
  • Store data in a persistent state, if necessary
  • Apply data in our machine learning AI models
  • Train an initial model for:
    • Predictive maintenance, or
    • Predictive quality, or
    • Predictive energy
  • Develop a rough concept for expanding/refining the data model
