Independent navigation in all directions 

Like their natural model, the AquaPenguins have an energy-efficient and streamlined shape. Their wing propulsion enables them to manoeuvre autonomously – in the tightest of spaces and even backwards.

The AquaPenguins can find their way in a water basin and navigate independently. They use 3D sonar, similar to dolphins, to communicate with their surroundings and the other bionic penguins – to prevent collisions, for example.

Technology for the automation of tomorrow

A totally new feature in robot technology is their freely moving torso, which is modelled on the tail fin of a fish. The bionic Fin Ray® structure has thus been extended to the three-dimensional realm for the first time. The torso design of the penguins can be used in automation as a flexible tripod arrangement and thus open up new application fields in handling technology.
