A bionic object with a fin drive
The Airacuda is pneumatically driven and follows its biological model in terms of design, shape and kinematics. In this respect, four Fluidic Muscles provide the s-shaped movement and the supple steering angle of the tail fin.
The fin itself works according to the principle of the Fin Ray Effect®: if lateral pressure is applied to it, the geometric structure curves by itself against the direction of force. By this means the Airacuda – just like its natural model – is able to unleash the full force of its fin movement in the water.
