Lifelong learning is elementary these days for individual employability and company success in a knowledge-based society. As skilled workers are becoming scarcer worldwide, it is important to develop existing potential in economies and companies by means of innovative training and development concepts. At Festo, lifelong learning is therefore firmly anchored in the corporate culture.

Festo Academy: tailored further training courses

The Festo Academy was founded in 1989 for the qualification of employees in Germany. A variety of practical seminars encourages the employees to pursue their personal development. The spectrum ranges from work techniques to intercultural skills and project and knowledge management.

Real and virtual learning

The range offered by the Academy is enhanced by e-learning measures based on the ‘Virtual Academy’ learning platform available to all employees worldwide.

Dual training in the USA

As a top employer, Festo is a model company when it comes to training young people. Under the motto ‘International vocational training’, we show our commitment in a variety of ways. In other countries too, such as China and the USA, we create vocational training opportunities based on the German model. In 2016 Festo was awarded the innovation prize for this by the Stuttgart region Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Based on the German model: Dual training in the USA

The growing technology and bio sciences sector in the US state of Ohio is urgently looking for qualified skilled workers. Vacant jobs cannot be filled because the qualifications required are way above the American high school level. In 2016 Festo Didactic and the NAFTA Regional Service Centre, together with other companies and education institutes, therefore brought a mechatronic vocational training programme to life at the Midwest Learning Centre located there and which is based on the German dual model. The programme combines the learning areas of IT, mechanics, electrical engineering and Industry 4.0. Apprentices from Festo USA also took part in the two-year programme and received an ‘associates degree’ after successfully completing it.
