Together with Festo and 17 other companies, Siemens AG is founding ‘MindSphere World’, a worldwide user organisation for the cloud-based, open IoT operating system, MindSphere. The aim of the organisation is to expand the ecosystem surrounding MindSphere worldwide and to support its members in developing and improving IoT solutions on MindSphere among other things. Andreas Oroszi from Festo was elected as a member of the Management Board of MindSphere World at the founding event on 24 January 2018.

The user organisation, MindSphere World, also aims to help the members open up new markets in the digital economy. This includes suggestions about the requirements placed on the MindSphere IoT operating system and recommendations about creating uniform rules for data utilisation. Over and above this, the organisation hopes to promote science, research and teaching in all matters relating to MindSphere. The members of the organisation meet in committees to deal with issues such as the requirements placed on MindSphere by industry and ideas about data governance.

The founding event of MindSphere World took place at the recently opened ‘MindSphere OpenSpace’, an innovative development and working environment, on 24 January 2018. MindSphere OpenSpace is part of the new branch of Factory Berlin. In an office space covering more than 13,000 square metres, Factory Berlin, supported by the German government and various companies, brings established technology companies together with developers and start-ups. The main focus of the new start-up campus is the Internet of Things.

‘For establishing a worldwide ecosystem, the development of standards plays a decisive role. The members of MindSphere World will therefore work together to come up with recommendations for standards for MindSphere-based applications. We will also be drawing up suggestions to enable interoperability between different MindSphere-based solutions,’ said Andreas Oroszi, member of the MindSphere World Management Board and Senior Vice President of Digital Business at Festo.
