Festo was awarded the title of ‘Digital Transformer of the Year 2019’ in the ‘Industry and Technology’ category in Munich on 4 March 2020. The jury thus honoured the holistic approach to digitisation, which extends from the corporate strategy, smart products and digital services to Festo Didactic’s digital training programme.
Festo also scored points with its approach of working with Resolto Informatik GmbH to integrate artificial intelligence into products and thus into customers’ applications – not only in cloud solutions, but also on edge or directly in the component. Until now, industrial applications of artificial intelligence (AI) have only been satisfactory to a limited extent due to latency periods and high data volumes in cloud connections. The decisive factor is therefore to bring AI ‘on edge’, i.e. to the machine and to interpret data there – directly at the source – in real time. This enables energy savings, shorter cycle times, reduces machine downtime and production errors. With the Scraitec platform, the AI specialist Resolto does just that.
Tanja Maaß, managing director of Resolto Informatik GmbH, and Andreas Oroszi, Festo Digital Business, accepted the prize on behalf of Festo. Resolto Informatik GmbH has been part of the Festo Group since 2018 and supports the leading manufacturer of automation solutions in making pneumatic and electrical automation technology fit for Industry 4.0.
The Digital Transformer of the Year (DTOY) initiative and a community of CEOs, CDOs and other transformation leaders have been awarding the prize since 2017. The leading study ‘Digital Transformer of the Year 2019’ is based on a comprehensive online survey in which more than 1,000 specialists and executives participated and, according to its own statements, aims to create the most comprehensive picture possible of the mood regarding digital transformation in the core sectors of the German economy.
