Many people with diabetes use an insulin pen for their insulin therapy. The device is the size of a normal pen and makes it easy to accurately dispense the required units of insulin. The insulin pens must be of a high quality. They must not break when used by the patient, which would put the patient at risk.
High-quality insulin pens thanks to automated system
The requirements can be fulfilled with an automated system. The system produces up to 300 pens per minute, keeping the stresses and pressure constant, as the glass in the syringes must never be broken by irregular pressure. The servo press kit from Festo makes this possible. The kit performs three joining and pressing steps: inserting the cartridge, needle and spring, plus the glass and plastic covers. As part of this, it joins together the individual components of the syringe, always maintaining the exact amount of pressure and stresses required, thus guaranteeing the quality of each individual syringe.
Rapid format changes
Depending on the size of the insulin pen being produced, a different pressure may be needed to press together the component parts. The servo presses can be flexibly adjusted to different dimensions. They consist of pre-programmed software, a control system and standard electric drives and can therefore be quickly and easily integrated into the system and adjusted. This enables rapid format changes. The precisely adjustable pressing and joining forces ensure consistently excellent quality and low rejection rates – including for the different sizes.
