Frequently asked questions about training

Our answers to your most-asked questions

We are delighted that you are considering a vocational training at Festo. Do you still have questions after having read the other pages? If so, we are bound to have an answer for you, as we are asked certain questions on a regular basis. We have gathered our replies together here for you.

Prior to training

What requirements do I have to meet if I want to do training at Festo?

In general, we expect our trainees to be sociable and to like meeting other people. You shouldn’t be shy about approaching others and working with them on particular tasks.

If you like working as part of a team and are eager to learn new things, then you’re just right for Festo. While you’re with us, you're bound to learn something new every day. However, this means that you’re constantly being faced with new issues. We welcome those who tackle challenges in a proactive and independence way, seeing them as an opportunity for growth. Our instructors do, of course, provide you with support along the way.

Other requirements depend on which vocational training option interests you. You can find our role-specific requirements in the respective descriptions for commercial positions and technical positions.

Where can I find out whether there are still places available for the traineeship that I’m interested in?

You can find this information amongst the material about applications. If the traineeship that you’re interested in is showing an ‘occupied’ status, we are no longer accepting applications for this role.

When can I submit my application?

Our application period begins in may each year for traineeships starting in the following year. Our annual Applicants’ Night marks the start of the selection process.

Can I apply online, or is it better to send in my application by post?

We are glad to receive online applications, which can be submitted via our applications page. We have set out the advantages of applying online here. An application by e-mail or post is not possible.

Postal applications for Sankt Ingbert-Rohrbach are only possible for technical traineeships.

Which documents should I include along with my application?

Your application documents should include a covering letter in which you tell us why you are interested in doing a traineeship in your chosen role with us. Please also include your CV and your last four school reports (mid-year and end-of-year results). If you have already done a traineeship or have other evidence of your suitability for the course, please include this.

What should I do if I don’t yet have my school-leaving certificate?

In this case, if applying for a place at Esslingen am Neckar, you should send us your last three reports (mid-year and end-of-year). For a place at Sankt Ingbert-Rohrbach, we will need your last four reports. You can send us your final school-leaving certificate at a later date, once you have received it from your school.

During and after your traineeship

Can I shorten the training period?

Yes. This can be done on the condition that you achieve good academic and practical results during your training. In consultation with your vocational school and provided that you make an application to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, we will support you in shortening your training period. The time by which you can shorten this period will depend on the traineeship.

Will I have the opportunity to travel abroad during my training?

Yes, we do offer this option. However, it does depend on your ongoing performance as a trainee. During your traineeship you can have at least four weeks of work experience abroad, preferably in our Hungarian company.

What are my chances of being taken on as a permanent employee after my traineeship?

We are generally very keen to offer our fully trained apprentices a permanent role. Of course, this requires commitment, motivation and personal suitability to the role. You will be able to acquire and demonstrate all of this during your training.
