The requirement: reducing cycle time for electrode milling. For static welding guns, Festo developed a customised pivoted arm exactly as per the specifications of Volvo and ABB. It feeds the electrode milling device to the electrodes after a specific number of welding points have been set.
"In recent years, we have found solutions that have helped us reduce the cycle times for electrode milling by well over half," says Leif Winberg, plant engineer for resistance welding at Volvo in Olofström. Considering that there are 300 welding robots installed in Olofström, this marks a further milestone in the hunt for shorter cycle times and thus higher productivity.
CeraCon GmbH and Festo have worked together to develop a technologically sophisticated solution that sets new standards in the field of thermal systems. The two companies worked together closely, from the design to the commissioning phase. Erich Krämer, Managing Director of CeraCon GmbH, reports: "Punctuality, reliability and expertise are crucial factors in system building. I've worked with Festo in numerous industry segments over the last 25 years or so and I greatly value the engineering expertise of Festo employees.”
