Festo introduces the VTEM Motion Terminal – the world’s first cyber-physical pneumatic-motion control product – to the biotech, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries at Interphex 2018, Javits Center, New York City, April 17-19. (Festo Interphex 2018 Booth # 1834)
The VTEM’s first-of-its-kind intelligent valves change functionality based on various combinations of downloadable applications. A single intelligent valve can replace 50 different components. The VTEM platform is modular and reconfigurable – thereby meeting two important criteria for systems based on Industry 4.0 concepts.
The capabilities of the VTEM Motion Terminal enable:
- Greater ability to adapt – a more flexible enterprise
- Predictive proficiencies
- Automatic tuning to keep processes stable
- Changing capabilities without the need of switching hardware
- Reuse and reconfiguration as conditions evolve
- Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and dashboard capabilities
- Fewer components to be sourced and maintained
- Faster time to market from process skid manufacturers
- Faster installation and setup
Motion apps seamlessly integrate computational algorithms with intelligent valves
Cloud-based downloadable apps enable one intelligent valve within the VTEM valve terminal to replicate traditional valve functions, including 2/2, 3/2, 4/2 or 4/3 way as well as proportional technology and servo-pneumatic functions. Flexible intelligent valves can implement preset travel time, reduce costs by operating actuators with minimum pressure, and detect leaks for faster fault detection, less downtime, and predictive capabilities.
Flexible valves, preset travel times, and leakage detection are featured at Interphex. For only the second time, Festo stages an Industry 4.0 augmented reality demonstration. Attendees will be able to interact with the VTEM Motion Terminal through virtual control panels. They can virtually examine the hardware in various orientations in space and experience a digital workspace envisioned by Industry 4.0 concepts. Festo suggests attendees make reservations for the augmented reality demonstration online at (insert web address) or as early as possible during the show at the Festo booth.
“The VTEM is more than a one-to-one substitution of physical for cyber-based control,” said Craig Correia, Director, Process Industries, North America, for Festo. “The VTEM Motion Terminal’s capabilities create a new paradigm for pneumatics. Intelligent valves with functionality based on software offer biotech, pharma, and cosmetic manufacturers tools and functionalities they have not had before. With this newfound power, companies are going to innovate in ways we haven’t imagined.”
Festo showcases its newly extended lines of pinch and butterfly valves. Available models of these process automation workhorses feature FDA compliance for clean operation, NSF 61 certification for drinking water, and ISO 5211 certification for a standard interface that allows customers to mix and match valves with the quarter turn actuators of their choice.
A Festo VZQA pinch valve has been incorporated into an automated hand sanitizer demonstration. The company shows an active demo of food and beverage sanitary droplet control. Electric actuators display precision operation by tossing and catching tennis balls. Festo brings to Interphex its process automation control platform, a unique, seamless incorporation of electrics and pneumatics.
Festo features its Stars of Automation program that guarantees 24-hour shipment of core products. Guaranteed fast shipment across the globe from regionally based distribution centers lowers overhead as fewer replacement components must be carried in inventory. This program also simplifies and speeds up ordering and rationalizes components, reducing time to market for OEMs.
