136 Complementary Areas of Expertise > Factory Automation The SkillsConveyor is an integrationready system, developed in close cooperation with customers. Its ergonomic belt is designed to support both single workpiece flow and pallet-based goods carrier flow. Available pre-assembled or as a kit, the SkillsConveyor sets a new standard of modularity in terms of hardware, software, courseware and interfaces to other Festo Didactic learning systems. It starts with the basics of installation and commissioning and continues up to hard-wired programmed control, PLC and LOGO! programming as well as DC and AC motor control technology. Other topics are taught. SkillsConveyor The Most Universal Training System for the Basics of Automation Technology Basic design In its basic configuration, the SkillsConveyor consists of a 700 mm long conveyor belt driven by a DC motor. The motor controller is located next to a rail mounted terminal on a H-rail in the integrated control box. It can be flexibly removed from the front of the system – similar to a drawer. The front of the control box contains various operating elements and sockets which – depending on the training scenario – can be individually rewired by the students in the control box and labelled on the operator panel. At the beginning of the belt, there is a diffuse light sensor, at the end of the belt there is a light barrier, each for the detection of workpieces. Learning kit In the SkillsConveyor Kit version, the students build the SkillsConveyor step by step at the beginning of the learning process. In addition to the empty control box and the mounting rack for the belt, the mechanical and electrical components are supplied clearly sorted in reusable shadow boards. The mechanical construction is followed by the assembly and wiring of the control box and the sensors. Subsequently, the commissioning is carried out with a suitable controller. Process Incoming workpieces can be conveyed on the conveyor to various machining and measuring positions. An optional add-on package with sensors, actuator, and sensor bracket allows a variety of sensor types to be mounted for object detection, measurement and object classification. Control box The removable control box as an integrated control cabinet with control elements is the pivotal point of the learning environment. On a H-rail inside the control box are various rail mounted terminals for flexible wiring, the fibre-optic units for the diffuse light sensor and the light barrier as well as the motor controller. → Videos
