Meaningful, invigorating experiences Young people enrolled in training programs related to renewable energy are invited to seize the opportunity offered by skills competitions, big or small. Competitions enable young people to showcase their abilities in a competitive setting. They receive constructive feedback from industry experts, enhance their understanding and refine their skills. Exposure to real-world challenges contributes to students’ professional growth and stimulates soft skills development, thus increasing their employability. Not to mention the excitement, pride, and sense of achievement of being part of such grand events! A multifaceted competition The competition features four modules— Design, Installation, Testing, and Maintenance—reflecting real-world tasks of renewable energy technicians. Competitors design and document small-scale solar or wind systems, install and configure components, commission and test system performance, and troubleshoot faults. Emphasis is placed on safety, sustainability, communication, and efficient work practices in line with the WorldSkills Occupational Standard. Assessing skills Competitors in the renewable energy competition are objectively assessed based on the established WorldSkills Occupational Standard, which outlines the essential skills and knowledge required for renewable energy technicians. Key skills areas include work organization and management, communication, interpreting technical documentation, applying electrotechnology and control systems, performing installation and maintenance of renewable energy components, ensuring environmental sustainability, following health and safety regulations, and using modern measurement and diagnostic tools effectively. Strong partnerships The WorldSkills Association organizes national and international vocational competitions since 1950. Thousands of young skilled workers around the world demonstrate their skills in over 60 vocational occupations year after year. Festo and WorldSkills International have enjoyed a close partnership since 1991. As a Global Industry Partner (GIP), Festo contributes the latest technology trends from industry to the competitions in Mechatronics, Industry 4.0, Water Technology and Renewable Energy. Since 2008, WorldSkills Europe and Festo have been working together to promote training in technical professions. In recognition Festo received the award of Premium Sponsor from WorldSkills Europe. → Visit the website for more info A strong wind has been blowing in favor of renewable energy since the skill first appeared at WorldSkills. Skill 62 – Renewable Energy was introduced at the 2022 Special Edition in Kyoto, Japan, with three pioneering competitors. Due to strong interest, it became an official competition at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, where six teams from around the world showcased their expertise using state-of-the-art wind power equipment provided by Festo Didactic—highlighting the global demand for skilled renewable energy technicians.
