Positioning systems

Drives with displacement encoderFesto offers both rotary and linear drives with a displacement encoder. The displacement encoder is part of the controlled systems – it supplies the actual value with the current position. Potentiometers or contactless displacement encoders are used. The displacement encoders are integrated in many pneumatic drives. Alternatively, they can also be attached to the drive. The cylinder diameters vary from 18 to 100 mm, the stroke lengths from 100 to 2,000 mm.
Axis controllersFesto's product range includes two servo-pneumatic axis controllers. The Soft Stop CPX-CMPX offers fast travel between the cylinder's mechanical end stops, moving gently and without impact into the end position. In addition, two freely programmable mid-positions are available. It is commissioned quickly using an operating panel, fieldbus or handheld terminal. The position controller CPX-CMAX is designed for the simple servo-pneumatic control of various linear or rotary pneumatic drive series. The CPX-CMAX is a position and force control module of the modular electrical terminal CPX.
Displacement encodersThe displacement encoder in a servo-pneumatic positioning system is used to detect the actual position. Festo offers potentiometers that can be attached to pneumatic drives. They are characterised by their low price and their resistance to welding currents. Magnetostrictive displacement encoders are contactless and measure absolute values. They can be installed in pneumatic drives or mounted externally. An encoder system is installed in the standards-based cylinder DNCI. It operates without contact and must be homed when the supply voltage is switched on.
Proportional valveThe proportional 5/3-way valve VPWP is used as a final control element in a servo-pneumatic positioning system. It allows the speed to be controlled. The force is controlled by built-in pressure sensors. Four different flow variants are available, each one adapted to the cylinder size.
Sensor interfacesA sensor interface is used wherever the measuring signal has to be converted into an internally used CAN signal. This is the case with potentiometers and cylinders DNCI.
