Not long ago, many alternative energy sources, including wind and solar power, did not appear to be economically viable. Today, much of the world seems to be embracing these technologies, with wind farms and solar power plants becoming increasingly prevalent. New programmes on wind power and other technologies have become extremely popular at colleges and universities around the world. As a result, there is an acute need for hands-on learning systems for these technologies. We developed our training programmes for wind and solar power precisely to meet this need.

EDS ® learning system Solar Thermal

  • Complete solar hot water heating system
  • Basic principles of thermal energy, storage and supply
  • Real heating systems such as underfloor heating, passive and active solar hot water heating systems, space heaters and hot water heat exchangers
  • Includes a small-scale hot water supply, heater and hot water underfloor heating
  • The system can be configured to exchange and store thermal energy.

EDS ® nacelle – wind power generation

  • Complete, scaled-down model of the nacelle of a commercial wind turbine
  • Compact and low-cost
  • Hands-on training for real operating situations and maintenance cases
  • Gives students the skills and expertise they need to work as wind turbine technicians
  • Complete drivetrain including the main shaft, gear unit with transparent side cover, speed sensors, hydraulic brake and asynchronous generator
  • Fully functional yaw system with a 61 cm slewing bearing, gear motor, drive, position sensor and fail-safe hydraulic brakes
  • Manual hydraulic pump and accumulator as found in real systems
  • A PLC controls the various functions of the nacelle and is located in a transparent control cabinet together with the other electrical components.

  • Hands-on training for real operating situations and maintenance cases
  • Give students the skills and expertise they need to work as wind turbine technicians
  • Can be combined with the learning system EDS ® nacelle
  • Replicates the rotor blade and all the components that make up a typical hub of a commercial wind turbine
  • Includes controllers for rotor blade adjustment and back-up power systems that correspond to the technologies used in practice.
  • In addition to the other electrical components, a transparent control cabinet also contains a PLC from Siemens to control the hub.
