Reference lab

Project description

The Centre of Excellence for Industrial Automation and Mechatronics is an initiative born out of the collaboration between the government of Uruguay (Ministerio de Industria, Energía y Minería) and UNIDO.

The centre offers training that aims to improve the job and career prospects of UTU (Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay) students as well as the productivity of local and regional industrial companies.

The FACT Centre in Montevideo has four labs: multimedia and simulation; electrical engineering, electronics and power transmission; fluid engineering, and a hybrid learning factory. The FACT Centre was established in 2015.

Instituto Tecnologico Centroamericano (ITCA)

Reference project: FACT Centre

Project description

The FACT Centre in San Salvador is a joint project initiated by the ITCA and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) to establish a dual education programme. Festo Didactic not only designed the layout of the laboratories, but also assisted with project coordination.

The FACT Centre houses three laboratories. One is equipped with basic mechatronics technology, the other two with flexible manufacturing systems using process and factory automation. One for dual education, the other for industrial training.
The FACT Centre was built in three phases, in 2008, 2011 and 2012.

UDB – Universidad Don Bosco

Reference project: learning environment

Project description

The FACT Centre at the Don Bosco University (UDB) in El Salvador is equipped with a computer-integrated manufacturing system (CIM) to effectively plan and design the entire manufacturing process for industrial companies.
The flexible manufacturing system (FMS) focuses primarily on production planning and organisation.

UDB’s goal is to teach the students technical knowledge and train them to become certified specialists in automation technology and industrial automation. In addition, the centre offers courses on flexible manufacturing in industrial automation for engineers and technicians across industry.

The FACT Centre at Don Bosco houses a laboratory with an iCIM system – industrial robotics and CAD/CAM/CNC.

The FACT Centre was established in 2010.

Philipp-Matthäus-Hahn School

Reference project: laboratory equipment for Industry 4.0

Project description

In 2015, the school received the go-ahead for the project, which was backed by the state of Baden-Württemberg and funded by regional businesses.

The learning labs were received enthusiastically by vocational and technical students, teachers and local industry. The school will be an important partner for many regional industrial companies in the future, offering specialised training to meet the requirements of different production processes.

The school purchased five learning labs: CNC milling and turning, hydraulics, mechatronics and Industry 4.0.

Installation of the learning labs in 2016.

Reference project: multifunctional learning lab

Project description

The training workshop is equipped with multifunctional learning laboratories for pneumatics, mechatronics and factory automation.

It offers a wide range of possible applications for customised solutions. The multifunctional furniture allows the room layout to be adapted quickly and easily to suit changing needs. The learning space can also be expanded at any time.

TecDesign’s flexible media supply and versatile furniture concept are ideal for theoretical and hands-on lessons with suitable equipment for each learning environment.

The multifunctional learning laboratory was opened in 2016.

Project description

The FACT Centre at the Abu Dhabi Polytechnic (ADPoly) is equipped with basic fluid engineering technology as well as process and factory automation.

The aim of Abu Dhabi Polytechnic is to train students to become specialists in process and automation technology.

The Institute offers a dual education system of the highest international standard to promote a knowledge-based economy in the United Arab Emirates.

The FACT Centre was founded in 2014 and houses four laboratories: pneumatics, hydraulics, process and factory automation.

Project description

The FACT Centre Beijing houses six laboratories with state-of-the-art training equipment, providing an optimal environment for application-orientated learning.

The training contents include pneumatics, electropneumatics, hydraulics, electrohydraulics, PLC and control technology as well as the essential processes in a flexible manufacturing system.

The FACT Centre aims to increase the job and career prospects of its students through targeted training. In the future, the FACT Centre will also offer training for system operators, maintenance personnel as well as research and development specialists.

The FACT Centre now enjoys a reputation as a professional and knowledgeable partner for basic and further training. The Fact Centre was established in 2009.

Project description

The FACT Centre at C.V. Raman College of Engineering in India is equipped with training equipment for process automation that covers all levels of mechatronics, from basic technology to flexible manufacturing systems.

The aim of the college is to provide its students with the technical skills and abilities they need to become certified specialists in instrumentation and process control technology.

The university also offers a wide range of courses for engineers and technicians from different industry sectors.

The FACT Centre in Bhubaneswar houses a laboratory for process automation.
It was created in 2014.

Project description

Vocational training centres (VTCs) have become one of the main sources of professional support for the Omani labour market by ensuring graduates are qualified and have the right knowledge and skills. This can then contribute to the economic development of the country.

The Vocational Training Centre houses a combination of two laboratories in one: fundamentals of mechatronics and flexible manufacturing systems in process and factory automation.

The Centre of Excellence was established in three phases: fundamentals of mechatronics in 2007 and flexible manufacturing in factory and process automation in 2008 and 2010.

Industrial Training Center Sinde

Reference project: Myanmar training centre

Project description

The development bank "Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW)" in Frankfurt provided the Ministry of Industry in Naypyitaw with the funds to purchase the necessary equipment for the Sinde vocational training programme.

The aim of the programme is to equip students with the necessary technical skills and abilities to increase their job and career prospects, and, in the long run, to decrease poverty and unemployment, thus benefiting the local economy.

The Industrial Training Center houses many different labs – electronics, mechatronics, control technology, pneumatics, hydraulics and building automation, refrigeration technology, machining technology, mould and tool making, EDM, metrology, CAD/CAM/CNC, metalworking and welding technology.

The training centre was established in 2016/2017.

ITF – Industrial Training Fund Abuja

Reference project: FACT Abuja Nigeria

Project description


The Centre of Excellence in Abuja is equipped with the fundamentals of industrial drive technology and process and factory automation. It participates in the accreditation process of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which aims to provide students with technical expertise in industrial drive, process and automation technology.
It also offers various training modules for engineers and technicians from across industry.
The learning labs also serve as a research centre. The Centre of Excellence in Abuja houses two laboratories for industrial drive technology and flexible manufacturing in process and factory automation. The Centre of Excellence was established in 2017.

Project description

The FACT Centre at Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti is equipped with the technology for the fundamentals of fluid engineering, process and manufacturing automation and a hybrid learning factory.

ABUAD’s mission is to equip its students with the technical skills and abilities they need to become certified specialists in automation technology as well as in manufacturing and process automation.

The university also offers training courses in manufacturing and automation technology for engineers and technicians from across industry. The FACT Centre was established in 2015.

Zeenni’s Trading Agency and Industries

Reference project: FACT Bsarma Lebanon

Project description

The reason for establishing the FACT Centre for Mechatronics was the lack of expertise among university graduates, who were unable to meet the application-orientated training requirements of local industry. A local company therefore took the decision to work with Festo to set up a FACT Centre with the aim of training its own staff and local industry professionals.

In the meantime, the FACT Centre, in cooperation with a local university, has opened a new branch that offers students demand-based education solutions.

The FACT Centre is equipped with basic mechatronics technology and houses two laboratories: fluid engineering/CAD/CAM/CNC and flexible process and factory automation.
The FACT Centre was established in 2008.

Nile University, Cairo

Reference project: FACT Nile University

Project description

Nile University has partnered with Festo to establish the FACT Centre Cairo as part of the TEMPUS project (‘Advanced engineering systems: bridging the gap between academia and industry’), which is able to reach out to industrial companies and to meet their technology and training needs.

Nile University’s laboratories were set up using Festo’s educational expertise, which enables it to meet the demands of Egyptian industry. The training content of the laboratories includes pneumatics, sensors, safety and control technology as well as the commissioning, troubleshooting and control of flexible manufacturing systems.

The FACT Centre was built in two phases. Basic mechatronic technologies, MPS® 200/MPS® PA in phase 1 (2012) and CAD/CAM/CNC in phase 2 (2015). Highlights of the laboratory

Project description

The FACT Centre in Lagos is a successful cooperation between the government of Lagos and Festo. Based on the principle of learning by doing, Festo has developed a training plan that promotes the job and career prospects of students and the productivity of employees in industry.

Festo Nigeria is responsible for organising and managing the vocational training programme.

The FACT Centre consists of two laboratories: multimedia and simulation/basics of mechatronics and advanced training in factory and process automation.
The FACT Centre was established in 2012.

Reference project: FACT Mahdia Tunisia

Project description

The FACT Centre at ISET (Institut Supérieur des Études Technologiques/Higher Institute for Technological Studies) in Tunisia has a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) to ensure effective operation of the entire industrial manufacturing process, with a focus on factory automation.

ISET’s goal is to equip its students with the technical skills and abilities they need to become certified technical experts in automation technology, and specifically factory automation.

The institute also offers a wide range of training courses for engineers and technicians from across industry. The FACT Centre in Mahdia is home to a laboratory with a flexible manufacturing system.

The FACT Centre was established in 2014.
