Simplified Motion Series (SMS)

The Simplified Motion Series axes are electromechanical actuators designed for simple and easy wiring, commissioning, and operation, like pneumatic actuators. Movements include end-to-end positioning and pressing/clamping. Each SMS axis consist of an electromechanical actuator mounted to an integrated motor to reduce setup time and cabinet space requirements. And the SMS axes include a wide range of actuator families, with linear and rotary options, precision and dynamic options, and short or long stroke variants, which can meet a diverse set of application needs.

Commissioning

This is quick and easy and doesn't require any software, computer or other accessories, because all parameters can be set manually directly on the drive. Simplified Motion Series is then connected directly to the controller, either via digital I/O (DIO) or IO-Link®, both of which are integrated as standard.

Benefits of the Simplified Motion Series

  • A variety of actuator sizes, strokes, and types to meet your application needs
  • Integrated motor reduces the space required in your control cabinet
  • Quick and easy commissioning
  • Familiar behavior, like an pneumatic actuator
  • Easy to operate via digital I/O (DIO) or IO-Link® integrated as standard

The functions and configuration of the Simplified Motion Series

Simplified Motion Series

Basic profile for movement between two end positions – with adjustable speeds in each direction.

Simplified Motion Series Expanded

Expanded motion profile for simplified press-fitting and clamping functions – adjustable speed and force settings.

Available basic functions can be set via buttons on the side of the integrated motor or via IO-Link®:

  • Speed and force
  • Reference end position and cushioning
  • End positions

Additional, extended functions are available via IO-Link®:

  • Remote setting of motion parameters
  • Copy and backup function for parameter transfer between drive and computer or from the computer to another identical drive
  • Reading functions of the process parameters

1) During commissioning, all relevant parameters can be set directly on the integrated drive. The parameters can be set easily and intuitively:

  • Speed for “out” and “in” movement
  • Force of the drive in the “out” position
  • Setting the reference end position
  • Setting the position "Start force-controlled movement"
  • Demo mode allows for a manual test of the movements

2) Simple electrical connection via M12 plug design

  • Power (4-pin): power supply for the motor
  • Logic (8-pin): control signal, sensor signal and power for the integrated electronics

Electric cylinder EPCS

The EPCS is suitable for single linear movements in every mounting position and its smoothly running ball screw allows precise and rapid positioning. As an extremely cost-effective complete solution, the electric cylinder is ideally suited for applications such as positioning or clamping, distribution, sorting or ejection, and in handling systems as a simple Z-axis.

  • Three sizes with a max. stroke of 500 mm
  • Simple and cost-effective position sensing with proximity sensor, flexible, reliable and quick to mount, can be retrofitted or repositioned at any time
  • Optional: ducted compressed air compensation prevents particles or moisture from entering and particles leaking into the environment
  • Unique "one-size-down" assembly system in conjunction with the ball screw and toothed belt axes ELGS-BS/-TB
  • The motor can be rotated 4 x 90° – this can be modified at any time

Compact electric cylinder EPCE

The EPCE electric cylinder is designed for tight spaces. Its unique design mounts the motor above the actuator to reduce space versus a traditional electric cylinder. And the use of a toothed belt to move the piston rod means the EPCE can offer cycle times as short as 150 ms in each direction.

  • Minimal zero stroke and extremely compact design make this product the perfect choice for applications where space is at a premium
  • Unique piston rod options for sorting, ejecting, centering, separating, and testing applications
  • Wide range of mounting options and accessories makes it easy to incorporate EPCE cylinders into your machine
  • Orient the motor in any direction to make sure cables are kept out of the way

Ball screw axis and toothed belt axis ELGS

Extremely compact and cost-effective ball screw axis ELGS-BS with precise, resilient recirculating ball bearing guide for the slide and powerful ball screw drive.

  • Three sizes for a payload of up to 20 kg at a max. stroke of 800 mm

Extremely cost-effective and durable toothed belt axis ELGS-TB with precise, resilient recirculating ball bearing guide for the slide in a compact design – especially as a main axis in handling systems.

  • Two sizes for up to 1.3 m/s at a max. stroke of 2,000 mm

Common features:

  • Permanently attached stainless steel cover strip protects the internal guide and the ball screw or toothed belt
  • Unique "one-size-down" assembly system for mounting with each other and with the mini slide EGSS
  • Optional: vacuum connection to minimise emissions of particulates from the axis to the system
  • The motor can be rotated 4 x 90° – this can be modified at any time

Mini slide EGSS

Cost-effective and resilient EGSS with smooth ball screw operation for vertical Z-movements or individual, guided linear movements in every mounting position.

The internal linear guide absorbs transverse loads and provides very good resistance to torsion at high torques.

  • Three sizes with a max. stroke of 200 mm
  • The electric rotary drive ERMS can be mounted directly without the need for adapters
  • Optional: ducted compressed air compensation prevents particles or moisture from entering and particles leaking into the environment
  • Unique "one-size-down" assembly system in conjunction with the ball screw and toothed belt axes ELGS-BS/-TB.
  • The motor can be rotated 4 x 90° – this can be modified at any time
