The interaction of changes in air pressure and vacuum
What effects do changes in air pressure have on a vacuum?
Air pressure drops with increased elevation. This leads to a reduction in the maximum pressure difference, which in turn means that the maximum breakaway force of a suction gripper will also be reduced.
|Height||Air pressure||Vacuum||Absolute pressure||Differential pressure to environment|| Breakaway force|
Suction cup diameter
|0 m||1013 hPa||70%||303.9 mbar||709.1 mbar||105.8 N |
|2000 m||789 hPa||70%||236.7 mbar||552.3 mbar||82.4 N|
The same vacuum generator and the same suction cup operated at a height difference of 2000 m
