Mining provides foundational materials for industries worldwide. Its influence reaches far beyond the mine gates, powering the production and distribution of everything from electronics and vehicles to buildings and power systems. For mining in Africa to remain globally competitive and sustainable, it must evolve with the times. This means embracing automation and efficiency. Festo, a trusted global innovator in industrial automation, technical education and skills development, is showing up to support this transition at the 2025 Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE).
Festo will continue showcasing its automation solutions at multiple stops on the MTE tour in 2025:
With a proud legacy of engineering innovation and local expertise, Festo‘s participation in MTE underscores the company‘s commitment to driving real-world efficiency and digital transformation on the ground, where it matters most. Festo will showcase a robust portfolio of solutions tailored to the harsh and demanding environments of the mining and mineral processing sector. This includes automation technologies that thrive in aggressive conditions involving corrosive fluids, high particulate loads and strict process control requirements. Below is a preview of the advanced automation solutions and technologies Festo will showcase at upcoming MTE exhibitions.
Bianca centric PTFE
The Bianca centric PTFE valve stands out for applications requiring extreme chemical resistance and high-purity flow control. Its PTFE-lined body is engineered for corrosive fluids and high-purity applications. This valve is available in sizes DN 32 to DN 900, and it has increased service life due to the chambered liner, which prevents cold flow at the flange sealing surface.
Limit Switch Box SRBK
The new limit switch box SRBK is a binary position feedback system made of highly reinforced polymer with a visual display for manual or automated process systems. It can be used indoors and outdoors under extreme conditions, such as UV radiation, chemically demanding ambient conditions or temperature fluctuations.
AZ-Armaturen
The AZ-Armaturen is a high-performance plug valve engineered to excel in various industries, including chemical, food, mining, paper and pulp. It effortlessly handles high operating pressures and aggressive, toxic or abrasive media. When reliability and durability are non-negotiable, this valve delivers without compromise.
Complete Filter Regulator PCRP
The PCRP is a stainless-steel solution for corrosive environments, built to withstand extreme temperatures from -60°C to 80°C. It features robust housing for the specific requirements of the process automation industry, and it has two pressure gauge connections for different installation options.
ISO valve terminal VTSA
The VTSA is ideal for maximum pneumatic and electrical function integration. Its standout feature is the ability to mix five-valve sizes on a single-valve terminal, making it a versatile solution for complex automation needs. Its robust metal housing, fully sealed valves, ducted exhaust and pilot air system provide superior protection against fine dust, ensuring reliable operation in the most challenging conditions.
VTUG-AP-I (Festo AP-I Bus)
The VTUG is a multi-pin plug valve terminal with a Festo-specific I-Port interface for bus nodes (CTEU). It features reversible piston spool valves, up to 24 valve positions and reduced power consumption. This valve terminal uses the CPX-AP-I Bus, a flexible, decentralised, compact and lightweight automation system with a high degree of protection IP65/IP67.
Valve terminal VTUX
The VTUX is a convertible valve terminal that allows maximum flexibility in machine design. It offers the highest level of communication performance, from the tried-and-tested multi-pin interface to the latest AP communication interface, which has proven extremely valuable for further expansions. Compact, lightweight, yet robust, it is flexible for centralised and decentralised installation.
Smart positioner CMSH
The CMSH is an intelligent digital positioner. It controls the position of a process valve that is actuated by a pneumatic actuator. The CMSH provides all the benefits of a highly dynamic,
low-wear positioning system with high air output and a long service life. Featuring 2-wire technology, HART communication, condition monitoring functions and a modular system with many variants, the CMSH offers excellent flexibility for many applications.
Desponia Plus Flucast FP/Ultralene
Coated with Ultralene for a robust 3mm sheath thickness, the Desponia Plus is ideal for sludge, cement, powder, slurry, flue gas cleaning and desalination. The Flucast FP offers 2-3 times the abrasion resistance of SBR.
Limit switch attachment SRAP
The analogue limit switch attachment SRAP is perfect for monitoring the position of semi-rotary actuators and reports the position back to the controller via an analogue 4–20mA output signal.
Linear actuator with displacement encoder DFPI
The new linear actuator DFPI is equipped for a wide range of applications thanks to ISO 15552. The easy-to-install, sturdy and reliable DFPI is suitable for regulating air dampers, processing bulk materials and regulating flow and fill levels.
Electric cylinder ESBF
The ESBF is a high-performance servo-controlled linear actuator with absolute encoder feedback and a multi-protocol servo drive for seamless integration into your PLC system. With a dynamic feed force of up to 17kN, the potent electric cylinder ESBF comes into its own wherever heavy-duty, reliable positioning, precision and dynamic response are needed.
Festo is actively fostering a culture of efficiency adoption in the mining sector. The roadshow format of MTE, which brings the exhibition directly to mining operations, aligns perfectly with Festo's mission of delivering accessible, relevant solutions right where they are needed. From bulk handling and mineral processing to maintenance and utilities, Festo is helping mines across the region automate smarter, operate safer, and grow sustainably. In a sector that powers the nation and underpins its industrial future, Festo's automation solutions are lighting the way forward one innovative valve, one connected terminal, and one empowered operator at a time.
