For years, the DNC series has been the workhorse of the industry, trusted for its robust build and versatility. What made it stand out were the special variants designed to handle almost any challenge on the factory floor. These variants include elastic cushioning, which provides enhanced energy absorption at the end of the stroke to reduce impact forces and extend service life, slow speed operation designed for precise, controlled movement and low friction designs that minimise internal resistance for improved efficiency and reduced wear.

The variants also include the aluminium anodised coated piston rod variant, offering superior corrosion resistance and surface hardness, making it suitable for harsh environments. Other specialised features include end-position locking for mechanical stability at stroke ends, protection against rotation to maintain consistent piston rod alignment, and the V6 cylinder combined with valve integration, which streamlines control by merging cylinder and valve functions into a compact unit.

Introducing the DSBC ISO Cylinder Range: The new standard in pneumatic automation

Festo’s DSBC ISO cylinder range represents the latest advancement in pneumatic cylinder technology, designed to meet the evolving demands of modern industrial automation. The standard cylinder DSBC to ISO 15552 offers innovative features that enhance performance, flexibility, and reliability in pneumatic applications. As the successor to the proven DNC and DNCB series, the DSBC series maintains ISO 15552-compliant dimensions, enabling easy replacement of the preceding series with a simpler product selection process. A quick online selection tool further simplifies configuring your requirements, while a platform strategy ensures fast and reliable delivery.

One of the key technological advancements in the DSBC cylinder is its self-adjusting pneumatic cushioning system, PPS (Pneumatic Positioning System). This innovative cushioning automatically adapts to changes in load and speed, ensuring optimal cushioning settings at all times. This feature minimises wear, saves installation time, and increases process flexibility and reliability, even during synchronous running or in hard-to-access installations. For more demanding applications, the DSBC also offers the powerful adjustable pneumatic cushioning PPV, which allows active adjustment of cushioning to suit specific needs.

Compared to the DNC series, the DSBC's powerful 3K piston can absorb approximately five times higher cushioning energy at the end position, providing enhanced protection for machines and reducing maintenance costs. The sealed A3 dry run version supports lubricant-free operation, ensuring long service life even if lubrication fails. Proven components and a modular system provide a wide range of variants and combinations, including options such as protection against rotation, low friction, end-position locking, and various sensor slots.

Additional features include integrated magnets for position sensing, heat-resistant seals (capable of withstanding temperatures up to 150°C), high corrosion protection, chemical resistance, and explosion-proof options. The DSBC cylinder is also optionally available with reduced copper, zinc, and nickel content, making it suitable for sensitive environments such as lithium-ion battery production.

Customers need to note that the phase-out of the DNC special variants will begin on 1st of January 2026, with final discontinuation commencing on the 31st of December 2026. We highly recommend that customers transition to the DSBC as soon as possible, so they don't miss out on this opportunity to enhance their productivity with the latest advancements and innovations.
