Energy and Sustainability

In Sub-Saharan Africa, most countries are still developing and without reliable sustainable energy. We offer opportunity to master some fundamentals and specifics required to successfully commission solar power plants and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Target Group

SHEQ managers, facilities managers, finance managers government officials, accountants engineers, ESG specialists and auditors.

Contents

  • Current and future state of energy use in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • What does Scope 1, 2, 3 greenhouse gas emissions mean.
  • What is the cost of a grid-tied and hybrid power system.
  • Case studies of successful Solar Farms for how to select the right panel and inverter.
  • Exploration of net zero goals and South Africa’s.
  • Climate change act 22 of 2024.
  • Equipment selection and quality standards.
  • Review project construction techniques to install within timelines.
  • Exploring maintenance planning in order to keep the farm sustainable in the long run.
  • The course spans three days, beginning with project assessment and sustainable finance trends, alongside design factors and carbon credit calculations.
  • The second day focuses on natural capital management, BESS integration with solar systems, and the implications of the Climate Change Act 22 of 2024.
  • Finally, the third day emphasises maintenance strategies, energy production reporting, and global best practices for managing solar farm operations.

Outcomes
After completing this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Analyse the current and future energy landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions and carbon credit calculations.
  • Evaluate the costs and benefits of grid-tied and hybrid power systems, along with optimal selection of solar panels and inverters based on case studies.
  • Assess projects regarding policies, regulatory models, and sustainable financing options, including GSSB+ bonds.
  • Review construction techniques for timely project completion and develop maintenance plans for long-term sustainability.
  • Integrate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with solar projects and manage natural capital effectively, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
