Leonardo Award 2012
Pioneers for European Education
Germany
In order to make the European economy more efficient and responsible, an
initiative group involved in the HRM Expo established an award that distin-
guishes ideas that have a pan-European effect and provide new approach-
es to corporate learning. The “Leonardo – European Corporate Learning
Award“ honours people who have initiated and put into practice “beacon
projects“ for European education, and have thus become benchmarks
for other participants throughout Europe. After Prof. Jacques Delors, the
long standing President of the European Commission and Chairman of the
international UNESCO Commission on Education, who received the award
in 2010, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was the second laureate of the
Leonardo Award.
This year, the two Managing Directors of the Festo Holding Company,
Dr. Wilfried Stoll and Dr. h.c. Kurt Stoll, received the award in the category
Company Transformation”. This category awards personalities who have
implemented holistic, innovative approaches to corporate learning and
thus inspired other companies.
The initiators of the award chose to honour the brothers in recognition of
their outstanding contribution to education through initiatives such as
Festo Didactic and the Bionic Learning Network as well as their worldwide
commitment to basic and further education. “We see this award as some-
thing that honours not only our own achievements but also distinguishes
the overall performance of our Executive Board, our 60 Managing Directors
in Germany and abroad, and our employees around the globe”, explained
Wilfried Stoll in his acceptance speech. “For us personally, this is an in-
centive to continue contributing towards technical education in Germany,
Europe and the world.”
