Application-specific handling systems

You know as well as we do that in today’s high-speed production, time is the decisive factor. Machines must have the shortest possible cycle times and the highest level of reliability. For you, it’s all about physics: how you solve the handling task influences the performance of the entire system. In handling technology, Festo offers a comprehensive range of solutions for a wide variety of applications in mechanical engineering, standardized and combinable or as an application-specific solution for your special requirements. It works simply, quickly and arrives ready for installation. We will be happy to support you, from the planning to the commissioning of your handling system. What do you want to achieve?

Precisely fitting and ready to install

Pneumatic, servo-pneumatic or electric – our handling systems work across all technologies, effectively and therefore economically. Thanks to coordinated components and a high level of integration, they can be implemented quickly and reliably, entirely in line with your requirements.

Sometimes a clever combination of actuators is enough, sometimes only minor adjustments to standard components are necessary; at other times, the function and size require further adaptations, up to and including a new design. In any case, everything is done exactly according to your specifications.

Make or buy

To ensure that everything fits, we offer you support in all phases: from planning and design through to commissioning. Based on your available resources, you determine the vertical range of manufacture and we supply the individually dimensioned handling system in individual parts or also take on the assembly of the complete system. Our ready-to-connect handling devices naturally always come with CAD data and user documentation, and are comprehensively tested and function-tested. This ensures maximum operational reliability.

Configure Cartesian robots yourself

With the Handling Guide Online engineering tool, you can configure and order complete Cartesian robots, whether single-axis systems, 2D line and planar surface gantries or three-dimensional gantries. All you have to do is enter the axis definition, payload and electrical characteristics and you will receive the right version for your application in just 20 minutes – including the net price and CAD model. It’s best to see for yourself how easy it is.

Advantages of the Cartesian complete systems from the Handling Guide Online:

  • Configure and order quickly and efficiently online
  • Fully assembled and tested: fast installation guaranteed
  • Coordinated with one another: motor, gear unit, servo drive and energy supply system
  • Short delivery times
  • One part number, one delivery date: for straightforward order processing and reduced logistics
  • Area of application: for low and high payloads
  • Complete documentation incl. CAD model and commissioning file

Success stories of satisfied customers

Small automated factory for DNA extraction

Identifying, transporting, washing and aspirating: solutions from Festo carry out important functions in all phases of the process. We supported Synchron Lab Automation with the entire development of the extraction plant. To create real added value, our automation experts suggested using the CPX-E unit.

Niels Kruize (pictured left), responsible for business development at Synchron Lab Automation, is convinced by the collaboration with Festo: “We have actually built a very small factory. Recently, one of our customers made a priceless statement. He said: “This is so beautiful and at the same time so simple, I just don’t understand why nobody invented it before.”

High-precision dispensing of cast resins in the smallest of spaces

A comprehensive software package for simple programming and commissioning forms an integral part of the complete solution for bdtronic GmbH. The controller software, based on CODESYS, offers the most important basic functions that are needed to program travel paths even without an in-depth knowledge of programming. The controller interfaces allow the compact USB cameras, sensors, actuators, and valves all to be connected. All of this results in great efficiency and saves considerable amounts of time and money.

“With the compact handling systems from Festo, we have a complete unit consisting of kinematics, a controller and software from a single source. This saves us time and effort,” reports André Hellinger, Head of Dispensing Technology Development at bdtronic.

Fully automatic tool changer reduces set-up times

Festo’s integrated automation solution for loading and unloading workpieces and the tool changer in the additional magazine contribute to the success of the mill-turn centers from Stama Maschinenfabrik GmbH. During the project engineering of the system solutions for the mill-turn centers, the specialists from the Festo Technology and Application Centers were able to call on a wealth of experience gained while designing thousands of ready-to-install handling solutions.

“It’s a big advantage to be able to get all the solutions we need for workpiece and tool handling from a single source during the project engineering process,” emphasizes Jochen Boscher from the Stama project management. “In Festo, we have a competent development partner for all of our machine automation needs.”
