SMT Method for Printed Circuit Boards

Whether loading and unloading printed circuit boards, marking, applying solder paste, sealing components, or performing functional tests – we have the right products for these process steps in the assembly of printed circuit boards. We think you’ll be impressed and inspired by our solutions.

Loading and Unloading

Moving and positioning the magazine at the beginning and end of the conveyor belt – this is carried out precisely and cost-effectively with the electric spindle axis ELGC-TB in conjunction with the servo drive CMMT-ST and the stepper motor EMMS-ST.

We offer both pneumatic and electrical solutions for moving the panels or printed circuit boards from the magazine to the conveyor belt.

A pneumatic system can, for example, consist of a guided actuator DFM or double-acting round cylinder DSNU, an air solenoid valve for individual connection VUVG, plastic tubing PUN-H, push-in fittings QS, and an air preparation combination unit from the MS series:

This can be achieved with electric components as follows:

Electrical mini slide EGSC in combination with the servo drive CMMT-ST and the stepper motor EMMS-ST:

Marking Printed Circuit Boards

For the movement and positioning of tools such as lasers, pressure stamps, or suction pads used to place the label, we offer a wide range of axis systems (e.g. the EGC, ELGA, ELGC, EGSC series) for all performance requirements.

Our image processing systems capture corresponding data and guarantee quality.

If panels or printed circuit boards need to be locked, clamped, or secured during the process, our clamping modules EV, double-acting compact air cylinders ADN-S, and compact cylinders DPDM are the perfect choice.

Solder Paste Application

When the solder paste is applied to the stencil, the cartridge with the solder paste is emptied gently and precisely by means of a pneumatic cylinder application, e.g. round cylinder DSNU or compact air cylinder ADN. The system is controlled via a proportional pressure control valve VPPI or in an innovative manner with the Festo Motion Terminal VTEM.

A standard industrial robot from our Handling Guide Online moves the squeegee electrically. A system consisting of, for example, the mini slide DGST and the Motion Terminal VTEM or proportional pressure control valve VPPI controls the contact pressure of the squeegee. The components are optimally connected using push-in fittings QS and plastic tubing PUN-H.

Sealing Components

In order to seal components with adhesive or protective coating, the dispensing head must be controlled quickly and precisely.

The electric ball screw linear actuators ELGC-BS together with the new perfectly compatible servo motors EMMT-AS and the servo drive CMMT-AS are ideal for this purpose.

The system is controlled using the new, modular automation system CPX-E.

Depending on your requirements, we have two unique valve solutions for pilot control of the dispensing valve:

Air solenoid valves MHA1 to MHA3 for fast switching cycles up to 400 Hz, high-precision and durable proportional pressure control valves VEAA or VEAB with piezo technology.

Testing

During the functional and final testing of printed circuit boards, it is important to travel to the contacts to be tested quickly and precisely. The jigs are ideally moved with pneumatic or electric linear actuators such as DGC or EGC. In the test apparatus, the contacts for the in-circuit test are controlled using small valves and moved using equally small actuators.
