In order to be able to compete with other universities, the courses offered must be oriented towards industrial practice. In particular, the increasing networking and complexity of production in large companies, as well as in medium-sized enterprises, can no longer be taught through simple classic laboratory experiments. With the human resources available to a university, it is hardly possible to keep up with the permanent changes in industry. This is especially true of the laboratories where experiments, trials, and projects are conducted. University staff cannot teach and create and secure new experiments, trials and projects at the same time
.An appropriate laboratory is therefore the best way for Magdeburg Stendal University of Applied Sciences to familiarize its students with the current technical and technological conditions required in industry.

In 2016, planning began at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences for the establishment and equipping of two mechatronics laboratories in which the topic of Industry 4.0 was to be comprehensively taught.
In the following years, the planning and concept phase followed, in which regular exchanges took place with the responsible persons at the university and a holistic didactic concept was developed and concretized step by step.
The concept was then implemented in 2021. In December 2021, the two laboratories were fully equipped with functional, modern furniture and the latest teaching aids in the field of automation technology and robotics. Today, the two rooms are primarily used by students of mechatronics and mechanical engineering.
The project was funded by a major equipment grant from the DFG. The official opening then took place at the end of October 2022.
The inauguration was also accompanied by a film team. You can access the video via the following link.
