Automation solutions from Festo – for potentially explosive areas
For the expansion of its production facilities in a potentially explosive area (ATEX zone 1 and 2), a manufacturer of alcoholic mouthwash relied on Festo as the equipment supplier. As a result, Festo designed, pre-assembled and delivered the pneumatic hygienic butterfly valve assemblies, the associated pneumatic control system, and the input modules for processing electrical signals – all fully tested.

Fresh water for Bursa
Successful modernisation of drinking water treatment with Festo
With a population of 2.8 million, Bursa is the fourth biggest city in Turkey and needs approx. 700,000 cubic metres of fresh water every day. In order to optimise the supply of drinking water, the local municipal water company BUSKI recently modernised its water treatment plants. The 28 newly automated filter basins in the Dobruca water treatment plant can treat up to 500,000 cubic metres of water every day – more than two thirds of the city’s drinking water needs.

Success story "Complex, but not complicated"
Fully automated filling and hygienic packaging
For machine builders and operators, handling bulk materials can often be full of surprises. This isn’t the case at Burgener AG. The Swiss company created a complex dosing and packaging line for automatically filling pharmaceutical additives. Automation technology from Festo, such as hygienic design cylinders, pneumatic axes, valve terminals, service units and sensors, make for a straightforward system.

Success story "Setting standards" - Biotest
Standardised automation in blood plasma fractionation
Blood plasma is an indispensable resource in the production of life-saving medicines. It is in high demand on global markets. To make more efficient use of this valuable commodity, Biotest AG developed a new large-scale plant for plasma fractionation, with which it is possible to obtain five instead of the previous three products from a litre of blood plasma. Standardised components from Festo simplify installation and maintenance.

Success story "The cleanroom" - Rotan
Cleaning mobile production equipment
In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, cleanliness is of the utmostimportance. Production equipment can only be reused if it is cleaned. A new system from ROTAN GmbH shows how this can be done reliably. The Festo solution comprising valve terminals and stainless steel components ensures operational reliability and a long service life.

White paper - Controlling process valves and considering functional safety (SIL)
Functional safety in the process industry is a topic that has very much moved centre stage since IEC 61508 came into force. It is frequently only indicated by the abbreviation SIL. But what exactly is SIL and how can it be used to control process valves?

White paper: Comparative evaluation of automation concepts for water industry systems
Tools for optimising life cycle costs
Energy efficiency and the optimisation of specific production costs are important commercial and business challenges which we must face for a variety of reasons. Energy-efficient technologies are often more expensive than traditional technologies in the investment phase. However, measures to increase efficiency and reduce life cycle costs (LCC) throughout the entire life cycle of a production plant usually pay off.

White Paper: Digitalisation – new opportunities to optimise systems in the process industry
This white paper covers the following topics:
- Digitalisation as an opportunity in the process industry
- How decoupling software and hardware opens up completely new opportunities for already established technologies, based on the example of the Festo Motion Terminal
- Why do manufacturers, OEMs and system operators obtain very tangible benefits from analysing the data sent via the IoT gateway to the cloud – and what does this mean for their business?

White Paper: Four Myths About Pneumatics – And One Key Advantage
Why pneumatic actuators pay off in the water industry
This white paper has the following aims:
- To examine reservations that are frequently mentioned in connection with pneumatics: are pneumatic actuators really more easily damaged, expensive over their lifetime and higher on energy consumption compared to electric actuators? The reality is more complex.
- To provide concrete tips and hints for users in the water industry: why a lifetime calculation is a good idea, how leakage can be avoided – and some of the advantages of pneumatics that may not be obvious at first glance.
