ISO cylinders are pneumatic cylinders with standardized dimensions and mounting interfaces. With regard to these dimensions, ISO cylinders of the same standard are identical. There are standards for piston rod cylinders in round design (ISO 6432), in compact design (ISO 21287) and for large cylinders (ISO 15552).
Thanks to their round design, round cylinders can also be installed in tight spaces. To query the piston position, proximity switches can be attached to the cylinder barrel using a kit.
Festo offers round cylinders with piston diameters from 2.5 mm to 63 mm and pneumatic cylinders in accordance with the ISO 6432 standard. The piston rod cylinders are available in double-acting and single-acting versions.
Stainless steel cylinders are characterized by their corrosion resistance, even in aggressive environments. High-quality stainless steels 1.4301 and 1.4401 are used in particular.
The high-alloy stainless steels, which have proven themselves in practice, serve as protection against chemical stress and against damage caused by cleaning agents and disinfectants.
Compact cylinders are pneumatic cylinders whose overall length, in relation to the stroke length, is extremely compact. Compact cylinders are typically used where space is extremely limited and the requirements on lateral load are low. The compact cylinders belong to the group of direct mounting cylinders and are mounted primarily without specific mounting accessories.
Cartridge cylinders can be installed and operated in a threaded hole directly in the system. Separate accessories for mounting these piston rod cylinders and connecting the air supply are not required. This allows an extremely compact arrangement.
These are piston rod cylinders with an additional clamping unit for clamping the piston rod. The clamping is frictional when the operating pressure falls below a minimum level and – depending on the type – can be backlashed or backlash-free. Cylinders with clamping cartridge are used for static holding. For dynamic braking and use in safety-relevant controllers, a clamping unit with corresponding test certificate is required.
Piston rod cylinders with profile barrel or with Festo tie rods are based on ISO 15552. Both cylinder types have identical mounting interfaces and dimensions and the same technical data. These linear drives differ above all in the mounting of the proximity switches: on the profile barrel, they are secured in the groove, while on the cylinder with tie rods, the proximity switches are mounted on a tie rod with a separate mounting kit.
