Pneumatic special cylinder

Pneumatic cylinders are used to implement drive tasks. However, drive tasks cannot always be implemented with a standard cylinder. Special pneumatic cylinders are therefore often necessary, especially for complex drive tasks where the individual requirements are high.

With the selection from Festo, such as tandem cylinders, high-force cylinders or multi-position cylinders, you will always find the right product for every drive task.

What is a pneumatic special cylinder?

A standard pneumatic cylinder is a design made up of many components (e.g. piston, piston rod, cylinder barrel), which is already designed during production for a wide range of application areas and possible uses. Pneumatic cylinders differ, for example, in double-acting or single-acting or also by different forms of end-position cushioning.

But why do you need pneumatic cylinders of different designs? Pneumatic special cylinders are used when the requirements for the shape or size of a cylinder for a drive are very special. A special cylinder usually deviates from a standard cylinder in terms of its shape or size. A few deviations are enough to turn a standard pneumatic cylinder into a special pneumatic cylinder.

Multi-position actuators

Pneumatic multi-position actuators are available with two different functional principles. According to the first principle, pneumatic multi-position actuators consist of two separate cylinders which are connected together by a kit and have piston rods that extend in the opposite direction. Depending on the control and stroke distribution, this cylinder type can therefore assume up to four positions. According to the second principle, multi-position cylinders consist of two to five cylinders connected in series with different stroke lengths. With this cylinder type, only one piston rod is visible, which moves to different positions in one direction.

High-force cylinders

A high-force cylinder is a cylinder design defined by a series of compact pneumatic cylinders. By connecting a maximum of four pistons in series, the force of the cylinder can be multiplied analogously. The resulting force is transmitted to the external piston rods and can be used by the customer from there. The resulting force is applied over the entire stroke – up to a maximum of 5 mm before reaching the end position. The cylinder of the first stage is always used for position sensing, as it performs the visible stroke.

Tandem cylinder

These are two identical profile barrel cylinders of the DNC type arranged in series for doubling the thrust force in both directions of movement. By using DNC cylinders, the mounting interfaces comply with the ISO 15552 standard. This means that the mounting accessories from the DSBx and DNC piston rod cylinder range can be used as well as the piston rod accessories. Both profile cylinders of the tandem have magnetic pistons and can be queried using the proximity switch. The proximity switches are simply and securely fastened in one of the sensor grooves without any additional components. The energy can be reliably absorbed by the adjustable pneumatic cushioning. DNCT is available with a freely selectable stroke length up to a maximum of 500 mm either in a standard version or in a heat-resistant version up to a maximum ambient temperature of 120 °C. Other variants are available on request.
