Numerous products, functions, and entire solution packages for pneumatic motion, pressure, and flow control are built into the Festo Motion Terminal. A single valve technology, a high-performance controller, and intelligent apps – this combination offers you maximum flexibility and increases your productivity. The licensing model for the apps can be found below after the app descriptions.
Apps are the key to unlocking a wide range of possibilities for valve manifolds. This approach will:
Digitally regulate the flow rate of compressed air and gases up to 600 l/min – for several individual channels at the same time. For precise metering, simply combine the integrated sensors with external flow sensors. This saves energy and costly gases.
Maximum flexibility for special machines or mass production systems. Modify the standard directional control valve function as often as you like, e.g. from 4/2 to 4/3 or 3/2 – even during operation. This allows you to respond to multiple requirements at the touch of a button.
Now, for the very first time, you can also control all the directional control valve functions proportionally – with a degree of opening you can set yourself between 0% and 100%. To ensure that motion starts smoothly, for example, you can even specify how fast this should occur.
Control pressure and vacuum digitally – both simultaneously and individually on up to 16 independent channels. This means that a single VTEM can replace 16 pressure regulators, significantly saving hardware and space. At the same time, you significantly minimize the tubing and wiring workload and reduce potential sources of error.
This app does away with the need for external sensor technology as there are fewer basic parameters in the model-based controller. The monitoring model reduces programming time and effort, while the groundbreaking control system ensures a high degree of control precision.
Would you like to eliminate the need to make time-consuming manual adjustments and use separate one-way flow control valves?
The supply and exhaust air flow control function allows you to conveniently and quickly adjust the speed at the touch of a button, with zero risk of unauthorized manipulation. This means that you can program variable motion sequences with different flow control valve settings.
Load-Dependent Power Consumption
The “ECO Drive” app can now be used to automatically reduce pneumatic power consumption to the level actually required for the movement. This means that power consumption can be reduced to a minimum for simple motion tasks that do not require any additional force in the end position. Watch this example of a sliding device for a wooden block to see how it works.
Standard Operation
The compressed air system supplies a standard valve with a pressure of 6 bar. At the end of the movement, the full supply pressure of 6 bar is built up in the drive chamber, irrespective of the moving load – as seen at the bottom of the animation.
Eco Drive with the Festo Motion Terminal – for Energy Savings of up to 70%
The compressed air system supplies the Festo Motion Terminal with a pressure of 6 bar. Depending on the phase of the movement and the load, the actual pressure in the actuator is reduced by throttling the pressure to the pressure level required for the motion. This can be seen in the animation at the top of the video.
Increase your productivity by significantly reducing your cycle times. Selectively controlling pressure and exhaust air increases your actuator’s performance, while at the same time achieving maximum stability during operation. The system constantly adjusts the system parameters by continuously comparing the reference and actual values. In the event of influences such as increased friction or wear, the system adapts the values independently. Bringing it into operation is quick, easy, and intuitive, with no need to make any adjustments.
Save energy by individually adjusting the pressure and speed for each product. You can even vary these parameters within a single stroke, e.g. fast start-up, smooth travel to the end position, powerful press-in, and an energy-saving return stroke with reduced pressure. You can conveniently control the speed via the exhaust air flow control valve setting – and achieve shorter cycle times at the same time.
Move large masses in a highly dynamic manner and still reduce cycle times by up to 70%. Soft Stop allows you to achieve smooth movements, especially into the end position – without any shock absorbers. This increases the service life of your system, significantly minimizes maintenance work, and increases your productivity. In addition, the Motion Terminal learns over time – to keep the travel time constant, it constantly adjusts all the parameters in order to maintain the specified reference values.
Separate diagnostic cycles allow you to detect and localize individual leaks in the compressed air system. This makes precise preventive maintenance possible thanks to predefined threshold values.
Position the cylinder as required over the entire working stroke during screwing operations or when supplying different workpieces. You can easily control cylinder movement by specifying limits for the parameter speed, acceleration, and jerk. By specifying limits for these parameters, you can ensure that the cylinder smoothly travels to the work area. For selected series with strokes of up to 500 mm.
With the purchase of a Festo Motion Terminal, you also receive a free demo license valid for 30 days. This allows you to test all the other individual apps, from Selectable Pressure Level to Positioning and Soft Stop.
