Additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing

Do you want to increase the process reliability and productivity of your machines for industrial 3D printing? We are your automation partner for all manufacturing processes and phases of additive manufacturing – from the repeatable movement of the print head to precise gas handling and automated loading and unloading. You can easily and flexibly integrate our components, assemblies, ready-to-install solutions and complete systems into your existing technologies. Use the full potential of additive manufacturing with us.

What is particularly important to you in the field of additive manufacturing?

Repeatable movement in and around your machine

Whether fused deposition modeling with plastic or selective laser sintering with metal – in all additive manufacturing processes, the precise and repeatable movement of the print head, for example, is the basis for consistently high manufacturing quality and efficiency. The automation of loading and unloading processes is another building block to increase your productivity.

Move print head and build platform exactly

Our versatile motion solutions for print and laser heads are easy to install and reliably ensure that your additive manufacturing processes produce consistently perfect parts. The robust and very rigid axes have a high level of accuracy. Our advanced closed-loop servo systems detect, correct and prevent errors in real-time during the printing process.

Automated loading and unloading

Especially in 3D printing with high production numbers, it is worthwhile to automatically feed and remove the printing materials and components. The entire process can be made faster and more efficient. At the same time, direct contact with substances that are hazardous to health can be avoided. We offer you complete pick and place solutions with seamless connectivity to many PLCs.

Optimal design of motion sequences with engineering tools

With our online engineering tools, you can design your motion solutions for additive manufacturing technologies easily and safely. Diagrams and drawings are checked and calculated based on the input specification. You select the components that meet your requirements most economically. In doing so, you reduce possible sources of error, accelerate assembly time and lower the risk of unexpected failures. Another advantage: You can order your configuration immediately.

Bond 3D relies on full modularity and Festo for 3D printing

Festo components are a perfect match for the Bond 3D modular system. The machines for the 3D printing of plastics are assembled from different modules and segments depending on the requirements. With our products such as valves, valve islands, cylinders, ball screw axes, motors and controllers, it's very easy. More about this in the video:

Precise gas handling

The gas atmosphere and temperature are important influencing factors in all additive manufacturing processes. In additive manufacturing with the material metal, protective gases also play a decisive role in the manufacture and quality of the components. We have many years of know-how in the field of gas handling and can supply you with the right products for the special requirements of your additive technologies.

Fast filling with gas and precise control of the atmosphere

Thanks to low leakage and closed-loop systems, our solutions enable the build chamber to be quickly filled with gas in different flow ranges. The laminar flow reduces melting particles and smoke and thus forms the basis for a high-quality component. We offer you switched, regulated or controlled valves and systems, tailored to your application – from simple directional control valves to dynamic proportional pressure control valves to intelligent valve islands for the central control of gas handling.

Use shielding gas precisely and efficiently

If you use the Direct Energy Deposition (DED) or Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) process, you face the challenge of controlling the necessary protective gas with high precision. This is the only way to avoid unnecessary gas consumption. We offer you two alternative solutions: Flow control with the VEMD proportional flow control valve or pressure control with the VEAA and VEAB proportional pressure control valves VEAA und VEAB . All three valves combine precision with high dynamics and a very long service life.

DMG MORI increases quality and productivity with Festo

“Our goal is technological leadership in the field of SLM technology. And for this we need strong partners.
Through the cooperation with Festo, we have, for example, the possibility of tolerating the process gas atmosphere, i.e. the pressure and the oxygen content, within very narrow limits and thus have a direct benefit for the customer, since the process gas atmosphere significantly determines the component quality.

We decided to work with Festo because we have found a trustworthy partner in this company who supplies us with high-quality components."

Dr.-Ing. Vino Suntharakumaran
Managing Director at DMG MORI Additive GmbH

Festo supplies the pneumatic automation components for the LASERTEC 30 DUAL SLM and is involved in machine development. Festo provides support in the area of simulation and software in order to embed the automation components in the machine and the processes and allow them to act. Watch the video to find out more:

Safe handling of production materials

For smooth additive manufacturing and perfectly printed components, the materials such as metal powder or plastic granules must be provided in the right form and dosage, in a dry state and without contamination. The requirements for providing the materials for 3D printing are different for each project. Based on our standard components, we work with you to develop the right ready-to-install overall solution for your application. The material flow can be opened and closed with the DFPD rotary actuators . Dosing can also be carried out using the CMSX positioner or the VZQA pinch valve – without any loss of material or time. The service unit combination MSB6 provides the necessary compressed air preparation for operating the components.
